My husband has a ford taurus,(yes, I know they are pieces of sh*t) anyway, he was driving around 60 mph and all of a sudden the spedometer went to zero and the car started shaking a little, kinda like reving, then it returned to 60mph and it felt like someone slammed on the brakes and the spedometer went back to zero. What the heck could that be, we are taking it to a shop in about a week.

TRANSMISSION!!! Get it serviced quick. You might be able to save it. Don't drive it anywhere till you have it looked at.

It sounds like you are having a bad electrical problem. The braking you felt was the engine cutting out while the transmission was still locked into overdrive. That explains why the gauges all died for a moment. This could be tough to track down, but the shop should be able to fix it up.

transmission is possible, but my alternator went this weekend in my subaru, and all the gauges went crazy and it felt like the brakes were clamping down, id have a mechanic test the alternator before you start talking tranny, the price difference is big. Either way dont drive far if at all.

sounds like something in the computer. Get it checked out by a mechanic that has a computer diagnostic system. It will tell u exactly whats wrong.

i might initiate with ask your self absorbers or struts, finding on your motor vehicle. if your motor vehicle has extra desirable than 60-75,000 miles this could be a good commencing element. Shocks and strut overall performance starts off to pass to pot after this mileage.

maybe the throttle position sensor is going bad. the best thing is for the shop to hook it up to the computer and see what codes come up. hopefully it is something easy to fix, and you have someone you can trust to work on it without ripping you off.
