It depends on your personal level of pain tolerance.
I personally have more tattoos than I can count, some of them were uncomfortable, but never so painful that I didn't want another ;-)
I will tell you that pain sites differ from men to women and how much body fat or muscle you have.
My most painful was across the collar and breast bone.

No, doesn't hurt all that bad. The best description of what it feels like would be if you took a straight pin and scratched your skin with it hard. It's really more annoying than painful.
The worst places are the places with thin skin (like the inside of the wrist, for example), or on skin that's close to bone (on the spine, top of foot, etc.)
Mine's on the upper part of my back, at the base of my neck.
I don't regret having a tattoo, but I do regret that tattoo that I chose to have done.
Be careful and make sure that you are sure. Don't let your tat have ANYTHING to do with anyone else (except maybe a child). Mine is just a symbol - no names or anything like that, but I still have to remember why I have it, and now I'd rather not.

Yes they do hurt, anyone who tells you otherwise is lying or they have an incredibly high pain tolerance. In fact a reputable tattoo artists will tell you that it hurts. The least fleshy areas of your body like ankles, shoulders, lower back, are the most painful but it really doesn't matter... it hurts everywhere. It's a needle piercing your skin, it's going to hurt.

No, tattoos don't hurt that bad, but the experience differs for everyone. The closest comparison I have is like a sunburn while you are getting the tattoo and immediately after, then it goes away and just itches while it heals. (Don't scratch). I hurts more on areas where your skin is not padded much over bone, like ribcage, ankles, back of neck, or the inside of your arm.

If you get a small tatto it won't hurt as much. My first tattoo was a dream catcher with two eagle feathers on the left side of my arm. The first 2 hours wasn't bad. But the last 30 minutes were the killer for me. But, I am glad that I went through with it. I love my tattoo. Good luck in yours!!!!

depends where you get it. areas that are closer to bone hurt more--like ankles, feet, toes. most of the body isn't too bad but it also depends on the person. some people have higher tolerance for pain.
the tattoo i got on my left arm hurt like a mother. then i got a similar tattoo on my right arm and i barely felt a thing. but the pain is not really that bad. it's more annoying than anything else.
oh, and i heard the most painful palce is inside of the arm. like for an arm band tattoo. lots of nerve endings there i guess. but since arm band tattoos are lame you should be alright if you avoid them.

I have 3, and have several friends that have tattoos as well. The best description we have ever come up with is that it feels like a white-hot exacto knife cutting the pattern into your skin. Tattoo artists have told me that the most painful place to be tattooed is on the ribs. I have one on my shoulderblade that didn't hurt much at all, one on my ankle that wasn't too bad, and one on my lower back that I thought was going to kill me! It's like childbirth, I guess, because you soon forget the pain.

I have 2..one on across each hipbone over the tummy area. Both hurt to some degree, but more of an annoying pain, not an agonizing one. Not enought to provoke tears. Choose carefully, give any inkwork lots of thought ( it is permanent ) and make sure whomever does the work operates a sterile, professional and highly skilled shop. Good Luck!

i have a tattoo on my leg and it felt more like if you were to rub your skin with an eraser until it starts to burn. It would also depend on your pain tolerance, some people can withstand more pain than others. Oh and if you do get one stay away from the names people you are in a relationship with. Ain't nothin' like being tattoo with the name of someone and for whatever reason you break up. (I do plan to get another and my 15 yr old son is going to get one.)

The pain is more annoying than anything. It doesn't make me cry or anything at all (at least it didn't do that to me.)...
If you want to find out how much it will hurt, poke yourself where you would want that tattoo (ie. arm, ankle, shoulder...) with your fingernail enough to hurt. Multiply that pain by about 5(ish) and that is about how it will feel. (You do have to have fingernails long enough to actually poke with.)
I think the spine or anywhere close to bone (where the skin and muscle isn't very thick) will hurt the most.
Good luck!
