The movies that always make the most money are not always the ones who start out fast with a bang. They are the ones sometimes not as well known but turn out to be very popular and classics. Can start out fast and stay that way the entire time but don't mean it has to start out fast and crazy like some movies just as long as it is steady in the box office and sales are good. So kinda both yours above but more the first one that makes the money in the long haul.

The ones which start slow were critically acclaimed and the movie viewers were looking carefully and they can find how beautifully the movie is produced, which may result in the highest weekend box office gross for the coming weeks.

Making it big in the first place. Because whenever people hear the name of your movie, they think, "Yeah! It did really good in the box office so I think I am going to get that." They will remember it better.

it'd be difficult to rope in $300 million at the box office on your first film because you wouldn't have been heard of... litterally an "unkown" director, and you wouldn't have the profits from pervious films to aide you with the production of the big one. the bigger usually the better, and the bigger the name, usually the better quality film because you'd gain more experience as you went.
