Calculations?

Board Foot = a piece of lumber 1' x 1' x 1"
1x4 = .334 /BF
1x6 = .5 BF
1x8 = .667 BF
1x10 = .85 BF
1x12= 1.0 BF

2x4=.667
2x6=1.0
2x8=1.334
2x10=1.667
2x12=2.0

Laying out walls floors and ceiling depends on what the function of the wall or floor is.

If you are doing floors or roof you need layout and engineering information you can buy a good book on framing at any Lowes, or menards..

It would have useful to know what sort of wood working project you are thinking of working on e.g. furniture, building, boat making or simple DIY. You can find example of each if you do a simple search
