Wouldn't we all like to know? I mean, really, does anyone actually know exactly how this happened? I suppose that's why you posted it, but how do we find out?
Maybe it's time for us to 'regress' a bit. Everyone thinks life is getting better and more fun and maybe it is for some. Maybe it's only better for the people loud enough to have their opinions heard.
Parents are told to socialize their children early on so they don't become antisocial. Children are shipped into public schools and shopping malls, stuck in front of pointless tv programs and video games for entertainment's sake. The result of these two is that they're just as sociable as the kid who stayed in his room to read a good book.
McDonalds and Wendy's now have more healthful options in their menus, but it's still fast food and it's still making us fat.
Conversations are extremely valuable - to the cell phone companies charging us by the minute. Families rot their brains in front of the tv instead of interacting with eachother. The board game is nearly extinct and so is the unbroken family. How many kids do you know whose siblings are all from the same mother and father and those parents have not split up? I can only think of three families like that out of the dozens I've met.
Money is worthless in itself. It only costs a few cents for the essential products used in a $100 bill. And yet people kill themselves every day for not having enough green paper.
We corrode our livers with alchohol, give ourselves lung cancer with cigarettes, skin cancer with tanning beds, migraines and ulcers with the everyday stress we plow through and pretend that life is good.
I don't know how it all happened, but I know for a fact it's going to keep getting worse.
Our world, my friends, is spinning in the toilet bowl and on it's way down.

I blame it on Paris Hillton.Suddenly the spoiled brat and the ghetto is all cool.Thats why I am a "nerd" frankely i think it will all colapse on eachother.Notice how things are going backwards? Now its all punk and I even saw a girl in leg warmers the other day.The new thing is to be differnt and everyone wants to be differnts so they follow that fad which makes them the smae but there all to dumb to relize it.And emos can they be anymore annoying? If your depressed fine cut yourself if your to self distructive to get help or talk but don't go around showing it off, all there doing is it for attention.
Everyone turns differnt to be cool which means there all the smae and the one person who is differnt and loves who they are they all attack to make them feel horrible for being who they are and not who the magazines tell thim to be.And all those comercials talking about obesity hello! haven't you gone to a high school and see girls puking up there lunch so they can be "attractive" I am sorry but theres nothing pretty about a skelator. And what the heck is which the little kids trying to be all "seductive" and acting like hookers for crying out loud I'd rather be beautiful then hot.Hiot is anotherword for easy as far as I am concerneed. An how come we can't accept people are differnt no there losers if they are so were just gonna walk off a cliff in our lemming heard!Sorry people annoy me.T.V's are evil.

Wow Dude, you sound really down. I'm not sure anyone can answer your question with any authority. Society has been spiraling down for so long it has probably forgotten what is really important in life. We will either blow ourselves up or maybe something so incredible will happen that mankind will realize what a mess it's made of things and correct it. Of course at the rate the world is killing itself off, I wouldn't bet on it.

This society is in it`s final throes. It is following the same path that decadent societies have taken in the past; moral ambiguity, lust for violence, spiritual vacuity. People living in societies such as ours never see the writing on the wall, or try to ignore it, but it cannot degenerate much further and there is only so much anxiety human beings can abide before they lose their equilibrium completely.

You don't have to let it be this way on certain levels.
As to the money issue, whether it's colored pieces of paper or electronic blips, there has to be some kind of exchange program upon which we all agree.
As to the isolation fo people, that is something you can change by not agreeing, in your life, to be thiw way.
Conversation is not over-rated, but people have forgetten how to converse, preferring to dissolve into diatribe and invectives.

If Yahoo Answers is any indication, the future of society and humanity is reduced to cold, inhuman communications through often misspelled quips and irrelevant non-sequitirs.
But look on the bright side, at least we have sudoku puzzles!

I hope someday you will see that there is the opposite side to this scenario you are 'seeing' right now. I often like to say the world appears differently depending on the pair of glasses you pick up. Try to find a pair of glasses that filters out the negatives and focuses on positives - they are just as real.

I wish I knew the answer then we could solve the problem. If everyone just sat in their little boxes there would be no crime. I know you don't want to hear it but church has really helped me find peace and understanding. Although I have to fight with it everyday. It is getting easier.

I really couldn't have written that rant any better myself. I think the same things and often. But the frustrating thing is I really can't see how our path could have been different. Socialism was tried. It failed. Capitalism succeeds economically, but chasing after wealth leaves the rest of life behind. I wish I knew.

You have a good point. Our society definitely needs a radical turn around. I think it starts with individuals choosing to live well and whole despite what society and culture teaches.
