I agree with you: alcohol loosens the inhibitions but it doesn't put thoughts in your head. Mel did himself some serious damage, but at the end of the day he's just another self-important celebrity acting like a, well, self-important celebrity. If he's never in another movie or never makes another movie, its no big loss.
The thing that I found funny was that so many churches, including mine, when way overboard promoting his "Passion" movie for him. What are they thinking now that their hero has turned out to be a bigotted and possibly anti-semitic lout?

Mel Gibson is human, just like the rest of us. It's unfortunate that he essentially had a nervous breakdown that was then publicized to the rest of the world.
I think he's a good man, who loves his family, and has staunch Catholic beliefs. With his family history, I'm sure that his head has been filled with anti-semitic propaganda his whole life. Granted, he's an adult, and needs to control himself. But if Freud was right, and our parents do have a lasting effect on our personalities, then of course Mel Gibson is going to have a difficult time reconciling his father's malicious anti-semitism and his deep faith.
Alcoholics are different from people that just get drunk. They really do become different people. We can't judge Mel Gibson, because we don't know him. Leave him to his own life, and let's move on with ours.

I don't know if the TRUTH comes out but it sure can make some people ugly.
Realize Mel grew up at a time that the Catholic Church actually blamed Jews on Christ's Crucifixion. Which was the case, but to hold a whole nation of people in contempt for a few Jewish leaders action 2,000 years ago is wrong. The church has changed their position but those raised under it still have it in their sub-consciousness

I think it's pretty clear that Mel Gibson is anti-semitic. Alcohal may make someone act like an idiot, but I've never seen it cause a racist rant. One would have to have those things in mind to begin with...

I believe he is an anti-semite. First of all, his father doesn't believe the holocaust really happened.
Second of all, I agree. Alcohol is a window into the exagurated soul.
Third of all, alcoholism is one thing, being reckless is another. He drove drunk. Alcoholism doesn't make you get behind the wheel of a car. Being a moron does.

I think he was too drunk to get the wording right. What he meant was Zionist Jews are responsible for all of the war in the world. Not all Jews are Zionists.

I know that I'll never know for sure what Mel Gibson really thinks inside because I am not him, but his drunken rant sure makes me wonder. Alcohol makes people less inhibited and they tend to say what they really think.

Look at his last movie, it was about the severe beating and eventual killing of a Jew. What did you expect to come out of his mouth?

Gidson is simply a meat head.... Mad Max style meat head... He is probably convinced that making that passion of Christ movie opened the gates of heaven to him... I wonder why I used to have respect for this guy... oh right because of Braveheart.... a LONG time ago
