1, Start to wash dishes by hand, if that is out of the question then do not let the dish washer dry the dishes.
2, My bathroom has a row of five lights above the basin, even though all five sockets are filled i only have one light bulb come on when i turn on the switch.
3, kids are notorious for using more electricity then needed explain to your children how important it is to conserve power, and follow up, if she is in her room playing and you call her out for dinner make sure you ask her if her lights are turned off.
4, Check your refrigerator to see that the energy saving setting is on.
5, If you need back ground noise try to use a radio instead of the T.V.
6, Turn off your computer when you are not using it. I know it is a pain to wait for it to come back on but it is a power hungry machine
7, If you call your electric company they usally will provide energy saving light bulbs for free or at a greatly reduced price. It is alot less expencive for them to give away light bulbs then to build more power plants.
8, when preparing food on the stove make sure that you use the "burner" that fits the size of the pan that you are cooking in; and on that issue...lets say that you are boiling hots dogs, you dont need to fill the pan all the way up...just fill it with enough water to cook the dogs..any more than that is just more water to boil. and make sure that foods are cool before putting them in the fridge, if you put warm food in there it just means that the fridge has to run harder. And cook out side on the grill when you can.

Generating hot water: Solar water heaters are pretty inexpensive and efficient - so you should install that.

Then exchange your light bulbs against energy saving bulbs. We did that it saved us half of our bill every month. But we do not have a pool and don't do excessive laundry ;-)

If you have an older laundry machine - check out newer ones, energy saving models can make a difference.

And it seems you live in a sunny area - it may make serious sense for you to investigate solar power (solar panels). That's different than the water heater which only uses the sunlight directly to heat water. It's a larger investment but you may be able to generate most of your power yourself.

In winter: If you have the option heat with an ultramodern woodstove. They have low emission and are very efficient. We have one and don't need the electric heater at all any more. But we also grow our own wood - so that makes it cheap for us.

Pool heating - solar water pool heaters are inexpensive.

Not sure how much good wind you have - but windpower is very efficient. There are small windpower engines (you can often see them on trailers) or seriously large ones where you need building permits. It's an interesting option bu you need lots of clean wind and space.

If you generate more power than you need you feed it back into the system and the power proivde in most states has to reimuburse you with the whole sale price per kW.
With wind and solar together yuo can get there.

Install curtains with white backing to reflect the sunlight.
Turn off lights when leaving the room.
Turn off appliances when not in use.
Don't stand in doorway with door open.
Don't leave fridge doors open any longer than necessary.
If you have children, deduct such bad practice from their allowance.
Keep AC filter clean, and the inside/outside unit coils clean (yearly maintenance from a reputable service person is cheaper in the long run).
Good attic ventilation is must to get the heat out.
White roofs will reflect the sun (not practical in northern states, but a must in the south).
Another month from now will bring cooler nights, so you can open windows and turn off the AC during the night.
Do not turn off the AC when you leave for the day, the AC will have to work extra hard to cool your house down again (don't believe everything you hear from the electric company).

Keep the home closed up all morning, check the insulation in the attic, should be at least 12 inches, get Solar Screens for the sunny side of house- theywork dam good at keeping heat out- if your running a c, leave fans off - use only where your are setting.

Laundry adds humidity to the house, avoid as much as you can- while the heat wave is on.

In an condominium for the time of cooler months (like now) electricity is practically negligable. A CFL in comparison to a huge-unfold bulb can not make a distinction. the biggest value is warmth (assuming you have organic gas). i'm interior the comparable subject and in an rather poorly insulated place, so my gas bill is in the time of the roof. wanting including potential helpful residing house windows and siding, the appropriate (and basically) subject you may quite do is close the warmth of in the time of the day once you're at paintings, and set it low at night (sixty 5 ranges) and function a stable blanket. stable success, application costs suck!
