The best thing to do for a migrane is to take some ibuprofen and wash is down with a lot of Gatorade or Powerade. The electrolytes in those drinks counteract the pounding in the head. Continue to drink the Gatorade even after your headache is going away to help keep it away. Believe me, this works!

I used to have migraines about 3-4 times a week.
There are two types, and doctors disagree on what causes them, though I can say that some of what they think causes them are right on. The common migraine is where the person does not get the aura, but can last a little longer (3-4 days). The classic migraine is where the person gets the aura, and possibly (likely) nausea, and it can also last up to 3 days. Figure out which one you have.

It's basically blood vessels in the head expanding, and it can be hereditary. I found that mine were mostly linked to extremely high levels of stress and from fatigue. So, I got rid of the stressful situation and have only had 3 migraines in the past year. Keep a journal each day of your activities, how much sleep you got, how stressed you feel, and what you ate to help you determine if there are external factors linked to your migraines. When you get the migraines, look at the journal. They may not go away entirely, but you might be able to have fewer of them by understanding what brings them about for you, individually.

You can also get medication, but I found that for me, the drugs were strong and made me drowsy, so I'd rather do it naturally. I've posted a natural remedy link too.

I know what you're going through, so I hope you find a way to at least decrease them. My best to you.

P.S. I agree wholeheartedly with Kirby (above), the Gatorade DOES indeed work!

Suffered since childhood and still do: First off, see a neurologist if the headaches come often. Neurologists can prescribe preventative drugs and ameliorative meds. In the meantime: Ice coffee, ice packs on your head, tea tree oil shampoo to get a tingle going on your scalp; vomiting does reduce intra-cranial pressure, which is what a cold pack on the head and caffeine does; an orgasm will do the same thing; lay down in the dark; if you have a deep pressure massager you can apply that to your head and neck, it sometimes floods you head with blood and ameliorates the pain from just one section having dilated blood vessels; get someone to give you a deep tissue massage of your shoulders, neck and head--same principle. Whatever you do, no matter how much you're tempted, don't cut your head off.

If you mean besides RX medications (which I have found the best ones are Maxalt and Imitrex) then try this. Stand in the shower and run the water as hot as you can stand it on your face, throat and back of neck. Then switch it to icey cold and do the same. Keep switching back and forth to regulate your blood flow and change the dialation of your blood vessels.

Put salt under your tongue.

Drink ice cold water real fast (giving yourself an 'icecream headache')

Lay with your head hanging off the bed switching from an ice pack to a hot rag (microwave a wet rag in a ziploc to get a hot rag)

shut off all lights and sound and cover your eyes

Use 2 washcloths with water as hot as one can stand it. Place one over the eyes and one behind the neck. Keep the washcloths hot by rinsing them under the tap approximately two or three times. This should alleviate most headache issues.
I have heard that some treat migraines by dialating blood vessels (ice). It may work on some. It always made mine worse. Try this method and see if it works for you. Let us know... :)
P.S. Dry heat and other methods with water (hot water bottles) DO NOT WORK. The water must be able to penetrate the skin...water proof bottles prevent this. Use washcloths with hot water...and please do not burn or scald yourself...use caution!!!

I know when I feel a migrane coming on I take 1 super strength motrin and I end up with just a dull headache. still not great, but better than the horrible pain. Make sure you only take one, becaue two can really screw you up. Hope this helps.

excedrine migraine, put pressure on the bloodvessels at the back of your neck or around your temple area(pressure points). It works sometimes for my boyfriend, He takes a pill and I apply pressure which cuts off the blood flow, or thins it for a second or two. that usually clears it up. Sometimes he does just have to go to sleep though.

Nothing takes away my migraines except rest and my prescribed medication. You could try over the counter Ibuprofen (works better for me than Tylenol).

Try an ice pack to the back of the neck while laying in a cool, dark room on a soft couch or bed - try to relax! You'll be good as new in no time!!!

Try Advil & if that doesn't work start seeing a chiropractor, usually they have something to with the alignment of your back, you may be in need of an adjustment. Try that before going to an MD. Oh & one the Chiropractor don't got to one who uses his hands go to one who uses oh I don't remember what its called but its a little hand tool that just clicks but trust me it works!
