Open Messanger
Click on Messanger (the first menu item)
Click on My Contact Details
In the Nick name field, type a nick name you want to show
click Save and Close
You are done!!

ur messenger username is actually your yahoo username, and therefore to change it you must create a new ID. do it the same as you did it the first time, go to mail.yahoo.com and click new user(or woteva it says) and create a new account, making sure the username u choose this time is one u like.

I believe you have to open a new acct.
As messenger is signing on there is a link on the bottom right to: Start a New Account.

Create a new profile under your main name. Click on view YOUR profile, and then create new. then when you IM people you can choose which name you want them to see. (And you choose that in the messenger window after you open it.) ;)

If it yahoo you must close out ( or just stop using ) your old one and create the new ...to close out old just email yahoo asking them to close it out...
