thx everyone! i like the spa package one.. but we can't find anyone to chip in. i'll either give the couple a gift card or a silver picture frames with their names and wedding date engraved =]
but how much value should i add to the gift card?
p.s. my boyfriend has no suggestion at all! he doesn't even know what to buy for his mom's birthday! =[

What does his looks have to do with it? What does the wife like?
IS there no wedding registry?
Have your boyfriend make suggestions - it's HIS friend.
Rather than give the poor couple another toaster, how about a gift card/Certificate from Best Buy, Amazon, Crate & Barrel, Ethan Allen
You could also buy a couple's spa package (or chip in on one).

If they are going somewhere sunny or tropical for their honeymoon, make them a themed gift! You can find Island Bride and Island Groom T-shirts at Breezy Beach Wear, along with other fun beach items. Throw in some bubble bath and champagne glasses filled with candy. They'll love it!

Cash or check. Weddings cost a lot of money and money is the most efficient and welcomed gift. Write a nice card and put the check inside.

Gift card to Bed, Bath and Beyond or find out their favorite restaurant and get a gift certificate or gift card-it shows that you took the time to find out, but then they can use it at their discretion sometime when they need a night out. With the Bed, Bath and Beyond, it lets them choose what they want.

CASH! Although it may not be diplomatic to ask for it...cash is the most practical gift and it is always appreciated. From what I hear, the standard is $100 per person. If the couple is not registered anywhere, cash is the safest option. You don't want to buy something for them that they won't use- and plus it's easy for you too! It's an all round winner :)

a nice set of dishes is good find out what color their wedding will be in and get dishes that color or you can get one of those sterling silver picture frames that you sit on your desk and you can flip with their names and the wedding date engraved. it shows thought but not a particular style. if you get pictures or something like that it may not be their taste and since not really cllose friends nothing too personal.

silver candlesticks from tiffany's - can't go wrong with anything in a big blue box! (you can get a pair for around $100 I think)
