Avarage lifespan of laptops is designed to last between 18-24 months. ( i used to make them) Depending on how you have used them they can last well over 5-10 years but usually with a very degraded level of service. Parts also will be hard to find after 60 months.( avarage shelf life for parts incase someone gets the extended warranty)

I have seen several laptops last about ten years. The most common faults are failed hard disks and damaged screens so if you look after them they should last that long. The biggest problem is the battery which only lasts about three years. They seem extremely slow but if you use older software they can still be quite useful.

The average laptop out there lasts less than five years, usually not because it stops working, but because it becomes too weak to run new software and store new data.

They are generally designed to last about 3, but they can exceed that on a case-by-case basis. Their are still some old Compaq Luggables out there that are more than 10 years old. And some old IBM PC Convertibles.
