garlic, wooden stake?
How about a Cross?
If that doesn't work, leave a Hillary Clinton for President Bumper sticker on the table. That should scare it off half-way to Transilvania.

Don't know where you live, but you must have enough of a yard or some acreage to have a pool, so the simplest, easiest way to keep the bats out of your umbrella would be to put up a bat house for them so they have somewhere else to roost at night. You should be able to buy one prebuilt at a decent hardware or feed store, if you live in a rural area, or you can go to any of several websites, if you or your spouse are handy with tools and get plans to make your own. We live in the country, so I let them roost in the loft of my barn. One of the things most people don't know is that bats eat their own body weight each night, in mosquitoes. Between them and the birds we feed, we hardly ever see a mosquito any more.

Why would you want to keep them out? You should feel honored that they choose your umbrella to roost in. They're the best deffense against mosquitos and other bugs. Let them have the umbrella.
Or, if you must, get a "bat box" to put on a nearby tree (high up) for them to roost in. Then keep your umbrella open or put it inside when not in use.

Well, take some moth balls, and put them around the umbrella, but it might make it stinkie. You could just not close it,Bat repellant might help.Or put a bug light near it,Or you can look up bats on the internet and see wha they dont like, and where they dont like to live or something.

Shoot them! just kidding, take the umbrella and put it somewhere they can't find it for like a week, then put it back up. Also consider putting up a bat house, that way they go there instead of your umbrella.

Take 20-30 pcs. of naphthalene balls & wrap them in fabric mesh/net & hang it inside the umbrella. It will repel bats, as they would prefer a good night sleep anywhere else, than smellingl naphthalene balls.

Close the umbrella, however you do want to keep them in your neighborhood, give them an alternate place to rest. Build a nest for them or have a local scout troop build some.
