You might try wood ash if you can get some. We have a wood burning stove that we use in winter and I use some of the ashes each year around my hostas. Got rid of the slug problem. Someone suggested salt but salt and beer might damage the hostas if it got on them.

Catch the slimy things ,dampen a newspaper, soaked then lay it around under your hostas and other shady places in the yard then every morning lift up the paper and pluck -em into a zip-lock baggie and throw them away. Night hunting for them is fun also, spray/wet everything around your garden just before nightfall then wait couple hours then go out there with a flashlight on a safari. bring your zip- lock baggie again. Kids love to catch snails and slugs have them help.

Save your eggshells and break them ups into little bits and spread around the base of the plants. Its good for the hostas and the slugs don't like to cross over it because it cuts their soft bodies! Plus, you're saving money and the not contributing to the landfills!

Slugs love hostas because they advance in shaded, moist factors. I had sturdy success with beer. merely positioned some in small bins and push them into the airborne dirt and airborne dirt and mud. The slugs are fascinated in the smell and then they drown. What a fashion to bypass eh?

Toads, believe it or not they love slugs. Also put a dish with beer in it outside. Slugs like it and they climb in and drown. Personally I know jack about this stuff but my wife is an expert and I learned that from her.

Use a lightly diluted salt solution in water and pour circles around your plants and on any areas away from the plants. salt kills sluggs.
about 2 teaspoons to a gallon of water. The salt will soak into your soil and kill the sluggs. be sure to water the area the next day to dilute the first application with pure tap water.

1. Salt will kill the slugs. (Pour it on them)
2. Put down beer in a bowl. They are attracted to it then die.
