different point of view? This would suggest to me that they are not secure in their beliefs. Any thoughts?

Most liberals minds are closed. The Republicans are based on common sense, tradition, and pride to one's nation. Liberals are free minded and always want more, extreme Liberalism turns into communism. But it is all one's point of view. In the real world almost all Liberals are closed minded. Look at the news: PETA kills its animals, abortion and stem-cell reasearch are okay but eating meat is not, protest are fine by putting a flag or cross up are not, supporting other nations and enemies are great but you can't support America, gays can have parades but Marines are egged and booed. Churchill once said if you are young and vote republican you have no heart but if you are old and vote democrat you are stupid. For young people the liberals have a go mission but as you grow older you see that they are closed minded and hypocrites.

Again with the generalizations, E?

I don't think you have a closed mind. I don't think you have an open mind. I don't really know you, so how could I tell for sure?

But I do know, based on your questions and our correspondence, that you can be a bit condescending and a tad bit judgmental to the liberals you enjoy attacking. In addition, you have been a bit hypocritical as well. Especially since you seem to be angry at liberals for their positions, when yours seem to hold the counter position, which is exactly the same from a logistical stance, only mirrored. In other words, I get the feeling that you think the liberals have a closed mind just as much as they think you have one, or had that irony escaped you?

Are you truly secure in your beliefs, or do you have some other reason for constantly battling with yourself and seeking others validation on this site?

It seems that the liberal thinking is more often criticized for being open to alternate viewpoints and being open to criticism and accepting and tolerant.

It seems that the conservative viewpoint is more often criticized for being too narrow and not accepting or inclusive of all cultural viewpoints.

This is just the way it is...that is why they think you are narrow. Not because they are insecure, but because you think you know what's best for the world, regardless of the lack of respect conservatives show for others viewpoints.

I have never seen any indication that your belief system isn't identical to that of most other right-wing followers. Your questions in particular _always_ have their own answers embedded in them. Every last one of them. Why bother putting a question mark on them? They're statements, not questions.

Honest questions are asked with an open mind and a geniune interest in seeking an answer. Perhaps through such a process you might find something valid that doesn't conform to pre-existing ideas you'd had. An honest open mind can integrate such answers with a little thought and effort. A dishonest or closed mind denies those answers or simply avoids asking honest questions altogether.

However if the banner you fly demands consistency in belief and views from all it's members--well, that makes it pretty hard to integrate new information or ideas through honest inquiry or discussion, doesn't it? It's much easier to just agree anyway. And promoting divisiveness makes you feel that much closer to and and assured of your side--the mighty, rich, confident and righteous side--doesn't it?

Now the level of discourse here is pretty low. Almost no one takes a step beyond stating their opinion. At best you get lots of reasoning like this:

If (A) you don't support the President then (B) you obviously hate America.

The logic there doesn't stand up to any scrutiny but most people here--including yourself--don't go any further than that. That's no more reasoning or discussion than you'd find on a picket sign. But I guess I'm saying I don't blame you 100% for the quality of your questions or the answers you provide with them. Plenty of self-proclaimed "Liberals" here do that too.

But any way you slice it you're not looking to see a different view with any of this. You just want to say your piece, see the nodding heads, and imply that people who disagree with you don't like America, God, babies, kittens and so on. You might be right, some of those people might not be too secure in their own opinions. However--regardless of how closed-minded they might be--they are still dead on the money for saying you're closed-minded.

Extreme liberals like extreme conservatives are a dangerous bunch. Any answer given, if in opposition to their own is considered wrong. It is part of a radical's perspective; however, not all liberals are extremist, nor are all conservatives. When given opposition to an opinion, the natural reaction of most people is to defend their position, regardless of the circumstance, discussion, or justification. You may also find when opposing a conservative's opinion- they think you closed minded as well. I do not think that political skew has much to do with the "closed-minded" phrase. It is more of a strong stance in an argument. I think the true definition of closed-mindedness is inability to see merit or derivation in another point of view. If you mis-communicate to someone or do not inform them that you see where they are coming from but still disagree then they may think you closed-minded b/c they do not understand that you at least appreciate their difference of opinion or that you can at least even see their argument.

You've been talking to the wrong people. Also, people with open minds can have a discussion about disagreements, and even decide that they can disagree and be fine with that.
It would actually be boring if everyone had the same opinions, -nothing to talk about.
And people that are 'secure in their beliefs', are the worst. They believe and have faith, because they are either too lazy or to stupid to think. Those are the only ones that need either or both.
The type of people I can't stand are those that claim to have open minds, when in reality their minds are like concrete; completely mixed up and permanently set. ;-)

If you seriously wanted an open conversation on the issues then why do you invoke terms as "liberals or democrats"? Instead of asking what Americans thought. Logic would dictate that it is important for you to be surrounded by people that only support your point of view. And then you wonder why people classify you as a "Nazi" or "neocon". Terms that I think don't even come close to describing you. Confused, is the term I would use....just like the rest of us. Together as Americans we can find answers....and that is why you have not found any.

I am liberal but i find I have the same problem. When discussing an issue with someone I look at it from their point of view and sometimes i agree and understand and other times i don't. But when i speak they brush off my comments and simply say i'm wrong before i've even finished my sentence! its frustrating when people are so closed minded.

I know exactly what you mean. I really think it goes both ways. I think, for the most part, people have their minds made up and don't really want to hear the opposing views. That's unfortunate. I think we could all understand each other more if we could just listen...anyway...I am conservative, but not on every single issue, so I guess that means I am sort of open-minded.

I think there are people on the far left AND far right that have a hard time listening to, let alone accepting, a different point of view.

SeeingClearly said:
Liberalism is a disease, a disease of the left, a disease of closing one's mind to problems. Ths disease causes politicians to THROW MONEY AT PROBLEMS(other people's money), instead of solutions.... All liberals think their solution will work, no matter how many times their way fails. They are not secure when they hear the truth, it is a disease, voting against them is the only cure.

MONEY??? MONEY???? Like the $300 billion we threw at the problem in Iraq? Was that the Liberals' fault?
