When I was a teen, I contracted toenail fungus from sharing shower stalls in an all girls school. I've tried everything to clear it up - lamisil, alcohol, whatever remedy I found on the internet. I want to be able to wear sandals & have a pedicure done, but I'm too embarassed. Is there anyone else with this problem? How have you handled it? Any suggestions or remedies?

Try using Tea Tree oil on your nails every night. The prescription pills are really hard on your system. The oil is very pungent so maybe put on socks a few minutes after applying. You can also lightly buff your nails in conjunction with the oil (but not while the oil is on).. Tea Tree oil has antiseptic properties and moisturizes. It really does work. You can but it at any drug store, Wal-mart, ect.

Go to a doctor(it would be better if he is a dermatologist, someone who specializes in conditions of the skin).Thick/yellow nails are a result of a deeper infection of the nail and you should go to a doctor to find the right treatment for it and not try everything you read on the Internet out, cause some times you can have the opposite effects.Good luck and post a pick of your pedicured nails when it's all over and done with :)

Only the doctor can help you and it takes over 6 months to have clear nails again.

You have a fungus that needs to be treated by a doctor. Once you take the medicine, your toes will return to normal.
