What can you do? You need to put down on paper what your strengths are, in what areas your expertise lies and then develop a resume based on that information. Once you have a resume, you develop a cover letter, which briefly details your employment history and educational qualifications to a greater detail than in your resume. Do not go into minute detail in the cover letter. It is just to "introduce" your resume.

Bear in mind that Human Resources managers get hundreds of resumes every day. They read the first few lines and if you don't measure up, your resume goes into File 13 right now. You usually never get a response because it costs a company too much to send you a kiss-off letter. You want to send your resume directly to the man who actually has the job in his department to award. Don't send your letter to Software Development Manager at MegaCorp Software Development. That screams that you don't know who he is and you are basically fishing for an opening.

You also need to do some research into the company for which you want to work. A question you will always be asked in an interview is "What do you know about MegaCorp?" You'd better not say "Nothing; I just want to work here." The interview is OVER at that point and you'll find yourself out the door in just a few minutes.

Finding a job is a long process and this isn't the place to go into as to how to do it. Go to your library and check out books on writing a resume and cover letter, jobsearch techniques and tactics, how to dress and present yourself, how to answer a question for which you have no good answer, et cetera. You FIRST need a skill or knowledge that an employer will want to pay you to bring to his company. If you do not have that, you need to learn how to say "Would you like fries with that?" a million times a day and still sound cheerful after eight or ten hours, five days a week.

Sometimes, moving to where the jobs are really improves your chances of getting one. Northern Ohio is a graveyard for jobs. The unions screwed you guys big time. Move away. Move to Texas or out West. I live in Nevada, near Reno. We have more jobs here than people to fill them. Our unemployment rate here is less than three per-cent, meaning anybody who wants a job has one.

Try going to the website craigslist.com, enter your area, field of interest and I'm sure you'll find something you'll like. This site is up dated often. Good Luck!
