I'm pregnant and my fingers are swelling. I've had trouble getting my rings off in the past, I had a surgery earlier this year and was faced with the same problem. However, for the first time, they are beginning to hurt. I've been to jewelers who told me they only have equipment for gold rings, and the hospital said that if a jeweler can't do it then neither can they. Does anyone have any suggestions?

if you can, slide a finger nail file (or some other very thin metal object) between the ring and finger. using a dremel and specially purchased cutting blade (not one that is for wood or plastic- read the uses), slowly and patiently cut through the ring. it will get hot so stop frequently and dip your finger in a bowl of cold water. the finger nail file will protect your finger after the ring is open, but cut slowly! after its open you might need to open it with pliers. this will of take a little while, but it worked for us.

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM!

Wrap a bag of frozen peas around your hand ( peas conform to the shape best, but if no peas, use frozen corn)until the swelling has subsided. Then spray a generous amount of WD-40 between your finger and the band using the straw-like tube that comes with the lubricant. ( you may have to just aim for the joining of the two if you're still pretty swollen) Then take a dry cloth and dry the outside of the band just enough to grasp it, and pull. It should come off, but may take a bit of twisting before you pull to work the WD-40 in between the ring and your hand. This way you don't ruin your band and next time, take it off when you first notice any swelling!

The water trick didn't work very well because the absorbtion of the water by the tissues (the same thing that makes you wrinkle in the tub) made things tighter!

If you can get the ring off then keep it off until after you have the baby. My friend had the same problem. Until the baby was born & swelling went down, her & her husband just went to Walmart & bought a cheapy ring (that looked real enough) for her to wear for the remainder of her pregnancy. It's only a few months that you would have to do that. Your hand swelling will go down in no time after you have the baby.

You need to get the swelling down, obviously. Keep your hand above your heart for ten minutes or so and then try putting your hand in ice water for five minutes and then use soap to slide the ring off.

Call a different jeweler if this doesn't work.

Soak your hand in ice water for a few minutes. You should be able to slide the ring off after that.

OK..If the water trick does'nt work find someone with a cutoff tool and have them carefully cut the ring down till its thin enough to break off your fingers.

Do what mitzie said soak your hand in ice that should help the swelling go down and then put dish soap on it that will help it slide off.
