Not necessarily. Filipino citizens with Spanish last names may not have acquired those names through their ancestors marriage to actual Spaniards. Their ancestors may have simply, voluntarily or otherwise, taken on the names legally. A recent study of Filipino demographics declared that only approximately 3-4% of the 80 million Filipinos today have had at least one non-Filipino genetic ancestor (i.e., European, Chinese, American, etc.). So the odds are low that you are descended from a European.

Barcelona may be a last name for some Filipinos. If you happen to be a Filipino, your Filipino ancestors during the Spanish Regime (Gov. Gen. Claveria's time) in the Philippines had been decreed to take that surname by replacing it with the native surname they had. From then on, your family had been using that family name.

This is also true to families who have that surname but are not necessarily from the Philippines nor Spain but had been under Spanish rule.

Yes it is a lastname here in the Philippines but it doesn't follow that these Filipino Barcelonas could be your relatives... during the 19th century, the locals have no surnames to distinguish themselves from one another... that's why the Spanish government had mandated that all locals "must adapt" a surname for better documentation.. the surnames came from all possible sources... city names (we also have many Madrids here if you may ask), legit spanish surnames, and the like... to make this story short, they could be full-blooded Filipinos with an adaptive surname Barcelona

Barcelona is not a Filipino last name. It could be from Spain. Most Filipino has Spanish last name. Some has Filipino last name. You could tell if their last name sounds like a regular Tagalog word, such as Madlangbayan, which means media in English.

Yes, "Barcelona" is considered a legitimate Filipino last name due to the mass implementation of Spanish surnames per the Claveria decree of 1849. However, that probably means you are not from Spain.

Yes! There are Filipinos whose last names are Barcelona.

I know one!

We're both from Davao.

Her name's Pinky Barcelona.

A former print and ramp fashion model who used to work in Manila.

But she doesn't look like a Spanish or Caucasian.

She looks Chinese because of her small chinky eyes.

What a model!

What great talent!!!
