My sister eats anything and everything she wants but she is so skinny that it's frightening. She wants very much to gain weight but can't find any helpful way. What do you suggest please? (besides eating a lot because that has not been helpful)

Try mixing in weight gainers with some kind of shake or something along with regular meals. I used to work for a health food store in florida that was connected to a gym. The body builders and trainers would always order shakes with weight gainers in them. You can buy the mix or pills aat a GNC store. They are healthy for you as well.

Eat foods high in carbs and then sleep. Have her eat a lot of pasta and breads then take a nap. Try to avoid the fatty, oily and greasy junk foods though. She might gain the unhealthy kind of weight and it would look worse, and she also wouldn't gain the weight evenly (it might all go to her stomache and not her legs, arms or chest). She should also do light excercises. If she can tone up her muscles a little bit, she would look as if she had a little more weight on her, but it would look better than fat weight. Get her some little hand weights (less than 5 or 10 pounds) and have her do a couple arm and upper body excercises (check the internet for ideas and directions). She can do some sit-ups or crunches as well. It will make her look a lot healthier, so even if she is still skinny, she won't look "frightening".

Good luck!

I was exactly the same way. I never varied outside 128 -132 right up to my 30's. I gain a little bit every year. I am not 150 at 39. I don't think there is much you can do at that age except wait to get older. It gets easier! Trust me! If I were her though, eating more protein should sure help. Eggs, meat. Also eat breakfast. Most adults skip it, but thats not wise. Also beer. Yummy bear.

Weight gain should always be in the form of muscle, not fat. If you think you’re too thin and want to gain weight, don’t just stuff yourself with food, especially high fat foods. To build muscle, start a weight-bearing exercise program and make healthy food choices.

EXERCISE is key to having a healthy body. Learn how to add muscle and strength to your arms and legs. Learn how to do a SAFE weight training and exercise program from a CERTIFIED exercise instructor at a gym or in your home.

Underweight older people look and feel frail because they have lost a high percentage of their muscles. People, who are inactive, whether young or old, will lose muscle mass. Loss of muscle means loss of strength. Frail people are often unable to carry out daily activities such as climbing stairs or lifting a bag of groceries. Adding pounds of fat instead of muscle to a weak, frail body will not improve strength and will put the person’s health at greater risk.

As your body adapts to exercise, your appetite will adapt to meet your needs. You won’t need to eat a lot more, because it takes only 15 extra grams of protein a day to build a pound of muscle a week. As you gain muscle through an exercise program your appetite will probably increase and you may eat more without any conscious effort. Make healthy, low fat food choices that include plenty of meat, fish, beans, whole grains, fruits, and vegetables.

If you have lost a lot of weight due to a temporary illness, in time, you will recover your appetite and gradually return to your normal weight without having to overeat. Serious illness can cause weight loss with muscle mass and leave the person wanting or needing to gain back healthy muscle. If weight loss is unexplained, report this to your healthcare provider. Anyone needing to gain weight following a serious illness or surgery should follow the diet and exercise recommendations given by their healthcare provider.

Be sure to get a medical checkup before you start any exercise program. If you have a serious medical problem such as heart or lung disease, work with a certified exercise leader who will prescribe a proper and safe workout program for your health condition.

get pregnant. It worked for me. And now I am trying to loose that weight. Besides why does she want to gain? Has the Dr. told her she is unhealthy? or is it because she wants to have a curvier figure? Not everyone looks the same. Some are naturally very thin and some are naturally more curvy. Maybe she needs to learn to accept herself as she is if she is healthy.

Go to the doctor. A doctor can prescribe a diet that can help her gain weight in a healthful manner.

I would try eating salads with olive oil, then working out, and you could also try eating milkshakes. Olive oil is a good oil, and won't clog arteries. Also try eating more fish. Yogurt and cottage cheese is another thing you could try eating. Good Luck!
