Is it when you get married? Have kids? your first job out of college?

Does age always have to play a role in this?

I consider myself an adult because my stress outweighs my fun.

I started to consider myself an adult the first time I voted because I see that as a huge responsiblity. I know some people that are married with kids, but act half their age.

Personally, I think the age of adulthood as defined by my society (18) happens to match the age at which I felt like I became an adult, but for some people it could be younger or older.

When you get your first real job out of college and move out. Start supporting yourself, then you're an adult. You'll notice a difference when you're not partying as much and thinking twice before blowing your money on alcohol and other junk because you now have a resposibility.

I'm 36 and still waiting. Most of the time don't feel like an adult.
You know in fact I don't feel any smarter or wiser than I was at 16. Maybe just more cynical...lol.

When you start doing for your parents instead of asking them to do it for you.
When you become responsible for your own actions.
Age has nothing to do with it maturity does.

When you are self-sufficient. (doesn't mean you don't occasionally need help)
When you realize your parents are smarter than you.

a boy becomes a man when he absolutely has to and not a minute sooner. a boy can become a man at 13 cause "somebody" has to pay the rent and take care of the family ...or...

he can stay a boy till he's an old man if he feels no need to grow up.

None of the above.
There're some who start early as young as 6 years old! Those are what we refer to as an "old soul."
However, having said that being adult to my definition is independence - self-sufficient.
Being in control of your destiny/ life. Taking responsibility for your actions.

When my first child was born. Until then, I only thought I knew what responsibility was.

BTW, I was 26 at the time.
