No!!!! Beardies do not know when it gets too hot on their bellies as they can on their heads. Heat pads will cause thermal burns and blisters. Heat sources provided above (heat lamp) are more natural to the beardie and is 100% safe.

i have a 30 lb 6 ft long iguana that is supposed to have a heat lamp or heat rock according to the pet store.....yeah right..my old guy is now 13 yrs old and has never had a heat rock or heating pad.

I use a 200 watt bulb attached to a hooded clip fitting. You can get the hooded light socket at any hardware store for about $4.00. Light bulbs are pennies......

Think about it...Would your bearded dragon have a heat pad or a heat rock?

Nope. You don't have to have a heating pad for your beardie. Just a heat light on top of his tank to shine down on him. Keep a large enough pool of water in there for him to lay in as well. But a heating pad is not necessary. It usually heats the tank too much. Stick with a light on top, stay away from the heating pads. They are unreliable and cause fires as well.

Amber took the words out of my mouth. With heat rocks most reptiles will lay on them until they burn their bellies. You should get a heat lamp instead with a habit that allows him to climb up to the bulb and bask. Without proper heat they can not digest food properly and will most likely die. Good Luck

i have a bearded dragon, u SHOULD have a heating pad, if not, u must at LEAST have a heat lamp, they need to be kept warm 24/7 by at least one source of heat, i keep my lizard's pad on 24/7 and her light on during the day, just dont purchase a heat rock, or they could fall asleep on it, and burn themselves.

warmth pads ought to be used alongside side warmth lamps, as using in basic terms a pad does not impact the ambient air temperature and beardies are organic baskers (which demands a warmth lamp). the terrific thank you to apply a warmth pad competently is to purchase one with a dial that facilitates you to administration the outdoors temperature of the pad so as that it does not get dangerously warm. additionally, be optimistic it is on the outdoors of the tank - as stupid because it variety of feels, i be responsive to individuals have placed the pad interior thinking the warmth won't seep contained in the direction of the backside of the enclosure. warmth rocks are often the "evil" mechanism that maximum hobbyists frown upon. yet with duty, a warmth pad is risk-free.

if you can provide the even heated evironment they otherwise, then no, but if you place is hot sometimes or cold sometimes then you need to regulate it somehow for his little space. They like the heat to radiate up from under them like they were on rocks... so the answer is yes and no.... but they need a constant temp that changes very little
