Well I suppose its because we are all very fallible human beings. Instead of looking at our weaknesses we like to point the finger at other religions, races, and colors and blame them for all of our problems. I would not change my race but then I am a Caucasian. My family are multi-racial and I love them all very much. All humans come from the same source, whatever that was. In the past, I have definitely experienced prejudice due to my gender, but that has not made me hateful toward those who are sexist. I just stay away from those people.

If you were one of those that are hated by a certain group and was given the chance to change your race/enthicity/background, would you do it? <<<<< No, I would not. I would take pride in who I am. The other persons non-acceptance of me the way I am is THEIR propblem. My solution would not be to change and conform to their ideal of the "perfect" human. Rather, I would try to get them to open up to learning more about who I am, what I am about. If their heart is so cold and stoney that they are unwilling to make a change, then I would give up my effort.
Also, how can one be so proud of his/her background (therefore, would not want to change), yet claim that all humans are the same? Isn't there a condtradiction in such a statment? <<<< I don't see a contradiction at all. You can be proud of who you are but disgusted by the way others or the human race treats each other. Yes, by stating that all humans are the same is taking everyone and throwing them together in the same basket.
Just as an apple is not a carrot, so each person must be weighed on their own merit.

No I still wouldn't change what I am today (black) even though I am hated by certain groups. I'm happy with what I am. THEY are the ignorant, narrow-minded ones with the problem, not me. I wouldn't want to conform to their ideals anyway.
I don't feel there's a contradiction. I am proud to be black. I am proud of my family,my heritage, my culture, etc.. But humans are the same when it comes to being equal in society, not the same body. I didn't grow up the same way as say, the president's daughter. She may have more money than me and more fame, but she's no better than me. Everyone has the potential in themselves to be just as great or as incompetent as the next person: it's this reason why all humans are fundamentally the same. No ethnicity is better than the other but each race is unique and contributes different aspects of their culture to form the one human race. Do you understand my where I'm coming from?

People are racist because they have ideas handed to them and do not exercise the critical faculties necessary to challenge those ideas.
I am one of those hated by certain groups, and I wouldn't change my background for all the world.
Humans are *not* all the same. They are all EQUAL. I can be proud of my background without diminishing anyone else's. I see no contradiction.

No I would not change my race the whole racist matter is due to dumb people thinking they are better then others of the diffrent race/enthincity/backround I think this is a good question and lets all hope someday this racism ends!
I'm not racist but I really don't belive bi-sexuals and homosexuals are a race it is there own free choice to be.

I would do it (change my race) if there is a benefit, e.g. career opportunities, social advancement, etc. You'd be a fool not to change if your race is holding you back. Race is something you are born with, you "could be" born any race, and they are all the same to you whatever you are, so no point in sticking to it when you can make the change.
Only problem is we know you can't actually "change it". Any attempt to half-*** change it will only backfire.

I already am. I'm bisexual. And I have to put up with anti gay sh*t from straights and anti bi sh*t from gays. And I wouldn't change it for the world. It is a fundamental part of who I am and the idea of removing that makes me feel violated.
I'm proud of being bi because of all the BS I've gone through because of it. I don't think that a healthy sense of self esteem means I am better then anyone. Other people have plenty of things to be proud of too.

I wouldn't want to change my race. It's not because I think my race is any better or worse than any other. It's simply because I am happy with who I am.

Racism is a learned attribute. It usually starts at home, with those ignorant ones embedding the idea in their children's heads.
Unfortunately, racism is alive and well in the US. Sadder still, I believe it shall always be...........
