they are not, their record company is and 'best ofs' represent a chance for the record company to cash in at a time when they are about to become inactive for some period, production costs are minimal as the songs are already produced and all thats needed is a new sleeve etc, a small ercentage of the costs saved on production will be spent on advertising and promotion etc
in todays music world that could mean 2 years though, in oasis terms they could change their mind in 6 months
it serves as free advertising for other albums, as they will usually miss off one or two 'key' songs from earlier albums and generate new sales or dry up old sales of albums that didnt sell well killing two birds at same time
it could also mean that they are signed on an XX album deal and have to deliver set numbers of albums and have failed to do that - so need to deliver an album quickly, or want to end their album deal early with a best off and renogotiate their contract (either with the same company, or a new recording company)

historically 'greatest hits' albums are a bands way of getting out of a record contract. if they signed up for a multi album deal then often the last record is difficult to produce (either the band is still going places (and therefore want a better deal from a new record company), or the band is going nowhere (so puts out a a greatest hits to finish the record deal, and not have tio return any of the advance).
h'mm wonder which in this case

I did not know that they had enough hit songs to even constitute in making a best of album. Making it was the fact that they were big in England before ever comming here and it would be a treat to the British/ European fans.

Well I'll buy it, great band, with some real good songs. If they are finished will be a shame cos that means another true band (ie with instruments) will be gone, and we are slowly getting left with wankers on decks and a drum beat, Rap (silent c), and Crazy Frog volume 118. One of the best bands to come out of Manchester, and lets face it there's been a fair few damn good ones out of Manc, they've lasted well.

It's about time! And they're relaeasing it because they are amazing and they've been out since 1994. I think that's a great feat considering you have artists releasing greatest hits albums who been out for like 5-6 years aka Britney Spears.

Are there going to be any songs on it? If so, can they be done under the Trades Description Act?
Mind you, best is a relative term. Some are less utterly cr@p than others.

B/c their time has come and gone. They were like a 90's band.
They're just trying to make some last minute cash before people completely forget who they are.
