How do I go about getting my certificate? Is there only certain places that I can go to, how long does it usually take, is it hard, etc.

It depends what state you are looking to teach in. Right now there is a desperate need for teachers in certain areas but not in others (i.e. Las Vegas, New York City, Los Angeles, Baltimore, etc.). Before you waste your time and money on a teaching certificate, make sure you want to work in the state where you obtain the teaching certificate from. Also, definately get the certificate and classes out of the way first before getting a job. Taking classes and trying to teach your first year is burdensome to say the least.

Your state probably has a website that offers the steps, start with the state department of education.
Apply to become a substitute teacher while you are working on your accreditation. The federal governnment hires teachers, and often lets them begin work while their accreditation application is being processed. Working as a substitute will give you an inside track to how the district works. Another way is to hire on as an assistant and then move up when a position comes available.
Also, contact the university your graduated from and find out if they can help you, as a alumni, obtain your teacher certification.

Don't wait as once the school year begins you'll find the hiring positions dry up. Almost all school districts that have websites also post available jobs.
