Because he's being blackmailed by the clerk at the desk and he's making his weekly payment. Because his mistress, a hooker, is upstairs waiting for him and demands pre-payment. He's buying drugs from the desk clerk or the valet....He's reserving a room for a month from now...Tons of reasons are possible here. :)
