Because the ones that are dissing, just don't understand the sport. If you have never raced or been to a race, most people just don't understand what it is about. My family drag races, and many people don't understand why we do it. When you race you get a rush like nothing else. Nascar drivers have to be awesome drivers to race in the conditions they do. How many people can say they have run 185 mph on the highway and take a curve at that speed without wrecking, not anyone but real racers.
Everyone has a sport that they think should not be considered a sport, mine is tennis. They run around a court hitting a ball back and forth to each other, but you don't see me telling the tennis group that this is not a sport. Each and every sport has some dissers and they will down anyone that is into that sport.

I believe Jim Rome said something to the effect of, "Any activity that you can still do well while drinking is NOT a sport; so that leaves out pool, darts, bowling and golf!"
Seriously, though, while NASCAR does have a strong following, it's the people that watch other forms fo racing that hate NASCAR. Sure, fueling and changing tires in under 15 seconds is impressive, but doing so in under 6 seconds (Formula 1) is better.
It's a boring fact that NASCAR cars have the same tires, same frames, essentially the same engines and bodies, same downforce restrictions, same shocks, same restrictor plates, and that they can only turn left, and you've got the makings of a boring race.
Other forms of motorsports only restrict displacement (Moto GP), weight & dimensions (Formula 1) or horsepower (LeMans). The tire manufacturer & compound, chassis, injection, engine mapping, suspension setup, bodywork and even enine TYPE (turbo diesel, anyone?) are what push the envelope of product development. All NASCAR develops are new ways to make a billboard go 200mph.
The standardizations that are in effect to make NASCAR "all about the driver" are ridiculous. If it was all about the driver, then races at Infineon would be more than a colorful demolition derby. You want to see real driving? Watch Michael Schumacher rail at 150 mph in an open-wheeled car inches away from a concrete barrier in Monaco! Or perhaps watch Nicky Hayden slide a 230HP motorcycle through the corkscrew at Laguna Seca while dragging a knee!
NASCAR just seems overall to be a neutered version of motorsports, and doesn't live up to the hype.

Because you are comparing NASCAR to sports... it isn't a sport unless you consider playing Monopoly a sport or driving to Walmart a sport. Additionally, you can't go to any other event and see so many rednecks at one place. Where I used to live in Alabama, people would have their confederate flag flying right by their favorite NASCAR number. All the racists that I have met or know of love NASCAR. Even where I live now it is all these gun-toting rednecks that follow it, they aren't racists just are all just rednecks... which as a black person I try to avoid.
And if your rebuttle is anything to do with how hot a car is, it isn't like 2-a-days in full pads for football in August in Louisiana is exactly cool living. There are other things too, but if that's your only saving grace why not make sun tanning by machine a sport and turn it all the way up and see how long you can sit in there? Add an A/C to the car, I know it would use power from the car, but don't give me that crap as the only thing that could make it a sport. I can play Playstation in a hot tub and that isn't a sport.

I get ticked off when people come here and bash NASCAR, especially when they just watch one second of one Nextel Cup or Busch Series race, see what they ASSUME is just a 'bunch of cars going around in circles'...then turn the channel to fake crap like the WWE....
I know some NASCAR haters are from other parts of the world, where Formula One and other kinds of racing is all they see and all they want to know...
By the way, how the h*ll do either ping-pong or skateboarding qualify as a sport...One may as well say that skateboarding is just a bunch of grown men acting like 13 year olds, doing stupid stuff that could land them in the hospital......
No....I'm not from the South. But yes, there are NASCAR fans here in the Northeast. And yes, there are NASCAR drivers from the Northeast too....Ricky Craven and Martin Truex Jr. to name a few!
Yes, I do watch other sports. I'm a die-hard Philadelphia Eagles fan. When a Nextel Cup race is on at the same time an Eagles game is on...I watch one and record the other to watch later. And some of you NASCAR bashers think fans like me are stupid. Hey, unlike some of you, I can program a VCR!
So what, I'm a NASCAR fan. Anyone has a problem with it, I don't give a d*mn.

I 100 percent agree with you. The reason why everybody bad-mouths NASCAR is because of all the stereotypes that are tied with it. Unlike pretty much any other sport, NASCAR has a reputation of attracting redneck inidividuals who only enjoy beer and being stupid. And how far from the truth is that? Pretty far, I would say. I alone can at least say that I am no redneck; I'm a regular person who is an auto racing fan. And I know there certainly must be other people out there like me...they are just ordinary people who like racing.
I think ALL sports have people who dislike it. No matter how elite their reputation may be, SOMEBODY doesn't like SOME kind of sport...be it NASCAR racing to golf to water polo. Also, people just like to complain about things. They have nothing better to do than sit around like idiots and complain about sports (and other things) they don't like. It's very silly in my opinion. I think people's brains must be shrinking. I though we were supposed to have the capacity to be "open minded" and "kind to others." What has happened to that? Even on an anonymous answer site like this, people are behaving like childish brats! It's pretty shameful.
And then we are brought to the problem of people bad-mouthing drivers. Drivers of the sport get more controversy than any other athelete in this whole site! It's all about that "bad guy good guy" thing that happens each week. For instance, if Ryan Newman accidentally hit Dale Jr., people would be saying "How crappy and idiotic is Ryan Newman?" The driver being complained about changes each week, although it does seem that poor Tony Stewart gets more blame than anyone (poor Tony! He needs a hug as a reminder that people still like him!)
Dissing NASCAR is a childish waste of time. If people dislike it, then fine...just don't bother NASCAR fans about why it's so bad. Just ignore them and love your sport!!

Cause all non nascar fans see is that they do nothing but drive in circles and don't understand that it is so much more than that it's a sport. Driving 185+ MPH is hard work. Drivers have to concentrate every hard so they don't bump anyone else in the major traffic jam their in. For me I only diss my family and friends on who they like as a driver. Alot of people still consider it to be a red neck sport but you don't have to be from the south to enjoy the fast cars and the wrecks.

Actually in all competitive sports there is a lot of hostility toward other teams...just normal competitive spirit. However, NASCAR fans in general take a hit because it has a repetition of being a red-neck sport. After all, it started with running moonshine. However, I think that image is fading and NASCAR has a pretty wide fan base. Golf is a gentleman's sport, so you won't likely hear the same kind of kidding among fans...but it is golf, so who cares. The more passionate the fan, the more heated the competition. Therefore, we can conclude that NASCAR has some of the best fans in sports.

It's a combination of things:
1) Many see all Nascar fans as being stupid rednecks.
2) Fans of other racing styles think that Nascar is dumbed-down racing, and that their drivers aren't very good.
3) It's a completely American (for a little longer) racing group, so therefore open for ridicule from other countries.
4) They think the drivers are all fat Americans, not realizing the strength and stamina it takes to drive a 400-500 mile race.
Personally, I prefer it over other racing, but I get where the image comes from. You just have to ignore it and enjoy the racing!

I'm telling ya, they have NO LIVES! They hate the sport, yet they apparently just LOVE to say bad things about it! Yeah, I don't like golf either, I find it boring. But I don't go in the golf section or the football section on here and say how much I dislike it! I don't say that golf and football aren't sports, they are. So is NASCAR! I just try to ignore people like that. OMG! OTHER PEOPLE BESIDES REDNECKS WATCH NASCAR! I'M NOT A REDNECK! (not that being a redneck is a bad thing, it's not.)
Hey jason, if it's so easy why don't you try driving 200 miles per hour?? I'd like to see that........................

I SAY WE START MAKING FUN OF THE OTHER SPORTS!!!!!
OK Like Foot ball Men jumping on each other and slapping each other on the butt?? GAY
Moving on
Base Ball (hahaha)
A sport where a man has to play with him self before he spits (most men like it when you swallow by the way) and throws "balls" and other men with "big sticks" and again with the butt slapping thing.....
I could go on! the problem is that NASCAR comes from the back woods where people would bootleg moon shine and they needed fast cars! It turned into a comopition. ( I don't see these stereo typing yahoos having a fit about street racing... and that's Illegal and has killed more people than NA SCAR)
I guess it's just that it is a Stereo Type
I LOVE NASCAR
If any one has a problem with that then OH WELL they can always change the channel to those guys that chase little white balls around the lawn...
