people do stupid things when their drunk, that they would never do when they were sober. Just because he is in the public eye.... everyone is coming down on him. Give him a break.

Being drunk lowers your inhibitions. So he was merely stating what he already feels.
He's been a bigoted homophobe for years. I guess this isn't seen as bad as being an anti-semite, so no one tends to mention it. To me, ANY hate and discrimination is bad.
I have never seen any movie that Mel Gibson is associated with and I never will. I don't want my good money to fund hatred.

Being a Christian, I can see how other Christians could become upset with Jews for not accepting Jesus and crucifying Him, among other things, and, at a very low point in their day, voice their unwanted opinions. HOWEVER, as Christians, it is our job to believe in all the things for which Jesus stands and to fervently pursue the ways of Jesus. Apparently Gibson still needs to grow up a little.

Wide Awake is right on the money, insofar as reduced inhibitions allowed him to say publicly that which he holds in his heart. The Romans had a saying for it. "En vino veritas", loosely translated, "In wine there is truth".
Mel stepped in it big time. It can't help but have serious consequences for his career, which is a shame, as I believe once he left Mad Max behind he grew to be a terrific actor, director, producer, etc.
