the thing about activism is to ACT. So you have no money or clout. Try researching sites like: www.therainforestsite.com On this site, you can click a link which funds the preservation of 11.4 square feet of endangered rainforest. The way it works is advertisers on the site pay a certain amount of money for advertisement and exposure to the fund. Then, while you are on the site and see who is supporting the rainforest (which you find to be a worthwhile cause) they get public approval and possibly your future business. It is a win - win situation. There are all kinds of sites like this and maybe if you want to really get active, you can contact your friends and have them also go to the site everyday, or contact the website manager and see if he needs any local free labor (like speaking to local companies for them to support the cause, etc.).

Look online and see if there's maybe a group or something that's trying to save the Amazon. I wouldn't be too surprised, though, if it doesn't make a lot of difference. The countries where they're doing all that cutting are the places where they're trying to do something to make their economy go, and the wheels of progress as it were turn 24 hours a day. If you really wanna 'green' the planet, why not become a professional tree-planter? Good arborists are hard to find, if you sell each homeowner a tree, you'll never go hungry.

I think the timber industry needs to do stuff like what american companies have done, where they buy land and just plant their own trees. That way, you've always got new trees coming up for harvest. Only problem is, it takes so darn long to grow one, so you need a lot of land for it. It's not impossible, but it'd be a life's work to see it come to fruition, and it'd take money. Maybe if you write Bill Gates a letter, he'd give you 2 million bux to get started or something. There's more ppl out there in the world though that are looking to try and do good with their fortunes, read more about trees n stuff, maybe you can join in somewhere etc. You could be the next Johnny Appleseed! LOL

The consumer is the ultimate power on this planet. It's just that big business has most duped into not thinking that way.

Who destroyed US auto industry? Who makes only 1 of 100 new products on the market a success? Who could get violent video games off the market? On and on........

Organize Protests, and talk to big business that also would have an interest to save the rain forest.

Vote for legislator that support your position, encourage your friends to do the same. Do not buy the products of those organization that do not support your position.

I cannot tell you that I do not smoke because it promotes health and sickness issues and then but tobacco stock because it pays big dividends.

In this case, my integrity is up for sale and my virtue is in the toilet.
