When I load about 5 or more windows. I get the following message. Not enough resources to run this application. It also at that point is blending windows.(windows are overlapping each other making it difficult, and often impossible to read. I know I have over 20 gigs of room on the system. I don't know how much RAM I have available. I have dumped all cookies, run scan disk, and defragged.
question 1)How do I check how much RAM is availabe? 2) what else can I do?

Improve Your Virtual Memory.
Right Click on My Computer to Open System Properties

hey !!

the best way to get computer configration if ur using windows is to press the windows Button and at the same time press the PAUSE BREAK button ( should be somewhere near the scroll lock and prn screen buttons ) will give u a brief comp description.
same can be reached like
Start -> right click on MY COMPUTER -> properties

once there general will give debriefed info, advanced tab will take u to the memory settings ( performance button).

u can tweak these settings depending upon the Current config - the basic thing that will make a lot of diff would be virtual memory.

Again there is a possiblity that the computer is infected with spyware which eats up the virtual memory . so run some anti spyware tools too just to be sure.

Ok you can right click on the my computer icon and go to properties to find out the ram size. Other then cleaning out your ie history, cookies, etc, disk cleanup, scan disk, and defrag, try using things like spybot -free, lavasoft's ad-aware- free, microsoft has a spyware tool, also try a virus scanner, etc. Also check how much hd space you have left. After doing all this if it still is messing up and you see how much ram you have you may need to add additional ram depending on what your current setup is, and also try closeing some of those programs that appear in the systray in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. Preventing un-needed programs from starting up will help you conserve memory. If you are unable to disable all those icons or want to do it permanently go to start-run- and type in msconfig.exe and click the very last tab which are your start up items and disable some of them.. although be careful as to you what your unchecking. Thats about all I can tell you without sitting in front of your computer.
