Ants like a few things......soil, they will go for your plants, animal food if you have any pets, food, water, sugar or protein. Most ants will eat protein like corn for the most part of the year and then sugar based products when it's breeding time. Find the feeding cycle in your area then lace either sugar or corn with ant poison......simply line the outside of your house with the stuff being generous as all, real generous......this may not work right away but if you keep it up you will finally win.....this is what most pest companies do. I hired a pest company and the tech showed me what he was doing......I started following the pattern, it worked the first year but not entirely....the next spring I started putting out the poison first thing.....I have no ants now.....every year I used to get a trail that looked like they were simply crossing through my house to get to the other side of the yard.....they are gone now!!!!

If you sprinkle diatomaceous earth all around your house, the ants will not cross the powder. You can get this from a natural feed store or in small 3-5 pound packages from your pet store. Do not breathe the dust as it can cause harm to your lungs. I usually do this during the still part of the day. You can also sprinkle this right onto the any hill. The ants will get the dust into their joints, lacerate and die.

Use whichever ant killer you can find - I use Nippon powder. The trick is to mix a spoon of sugar with the powder and leave it near the 'trail'. The ants take it back to the nest and feed the whole colony with it. They die and the residue of the powder remains in the nest for any new colony that might take over........

I use Bug Stop, Spectracide. The is no odor and no staining. You just spray it on ant trails and around base boards and window or wherever they are coming in from. It has worked great for me. You can buy it at Walmart in the garden center.
