My 16 year old niece uses beauty mishaps as an excuse to look weird. She used Sun-In Hair Lightener on her dark hair when she knew it might make her hair orange and used the same brand of sunless tanning product that made her friend's skin orange. She also doesn't wash her hair after swimming in a pool because she knows chlorine will eventually turn blonde hair green.

Do your kids do something similar to this?

It's not weird,it's human nature that some people do things that seem odd to others while it's alright with them,so what your niece does or how she's behaving shows us, how diverse people behave or think.

I don't have kids and i wouldn't know if they would do the same things that your niece does.

Sounds like your niece is a bit of a punk rocker. I did similar stuff as a kid. I used to dye my hair with kool-ade. I had green, blue, purple... She's just experimenting. As long as she's not hurting herself, I'd say it's just fine.

Just normal teenage rebellion. Ignore it and it will pass, If it gets to outrageous then I would say something but don;t go overboard make suggestions instead of making sound like an order.

She is doing it for attention when she see's she is not getting it it will pass

It seems fairly odd to me, but no worse than people who color their hair green or orange using any other means.

Maybe she just wants to be different, and these are the cheapest methods of achieving it?

If you can afford to, why don't you take her to a salon and get them to color her hair green and orange professionally?

She's doing what all teens do, expressing herself, it's a natural part of growing up. Oh, be sure and take plenty of photos, so one day at a family gathering, everyone, including her, will have a good laugh!..:)

It seems pretty normal to me, I'm 17 and I died my hair purple a year ago, and wouldn't mind doing it something weird again. Has long as she likes it I wouldn't worry about it.

Probably just a phase. I used kool-aid to tint my hair red when I was a teenager.

Normal teen-age rebellion....I think they all go through weird stuff like that...they're just trying to figure out who they are/want to be...I wouldn't be too worried about it!

she's looking for her own style. It's not a mishap if you do it on purpose, she's just trying to be creative.
