The best brand of Laptops are Macs, specifically the MacBook. Why? Because it offers everything that a full-sized Mac does, except it's portable! A laptop is just a portable computer. You want a laptop that works just a like a desktop computer with as least disadvantage as possible. With a MacBook, there's no disadvantage to having a laptop. What more can you ask for? Oh, i know. How about no viruses? Yep, Macs have little to NO problems with viruses or malware. Doesn't that sound too good to be true? well it's true :)

this answer depends on a wide range of specifications. for desktops hp's, compaq and sony's. For notebooks its going to be hp,compaq, toshiba, and sony vaio. The computers to stay away from are Acers, E-machines, gateway, and dell's. notebooks and desktops are in the same price range, and you'll want a notebook with a nice screen. A screen can be widescreen also and with a glossy coating to keep it new and for protection. The screen alone is atleast 50 percent of your purchase, so when you purchase a computer, make sure you understand that toshiba's are not as good as compaq, but that sony vaio's and hp's are the favorite in this category. Toshiba notebooks are very affordable, and dollar for dollar just as good as hp and sony vaio's, and the same as compaq presarios. the warranty's are the same on all computers no matter the brand or desktop or notebook. notebooks can come with everything desktops can, and purchasing the one with the correct operating system is important. you can purchase windows xp home edition, professional, and media center. the software you'll probably need is office, if you do not already have access to a disc that you can use to download from. if you have a friend that has one you can use that. if that doesn't work than purchase the student teacher edition of office because its affordable and the samething..if they ask for a student or teacher i.d. than do not take it. normally they will not. you can also just purchase the microsoft office student edition. get nortons internet security installed, because it includes a firewall, spysweeper, adware and antivirus all in one for a great price. you will need to update it yearly and it'll be about 100 dollars for the software. purchase a computer with a dvd rewritable and lightscribe is an option, along with bluetooth, a tablet option and camera with microphone. if you really want to spend money you can get blue ray on your computer, but personally i think its overpriced. your computer should have atleast 2-3 usb slots, firewire should be good, and a place for memory cards is optional. all notebooks are normally wireless so you will not need a pc card. a video card with 128 mb of memory that is not shared memory is preferable. ram should be atleast 512 mb, and an intel core duo processor with atleast 1.5ghz is very good. the hard drive should be atleast 100 gb. the battery life should be atleast 3 hours, if it says anything else do not purchase it. make sure you consider the service plan which covers all hardware issues, all parts and components like screen replacements, hard drives, motherboard, battery and so forth. an upgrade of the service plan may provide software installation along with removing virus'. the service plan will cost about 200 for two years and 320 for three years on a 900-1100 dollar purchase. but you get the idea. it'll cost more the more your willing to spend. if you want to upgrade it to the antivirus removal and software installation it'll cost another 100 dollars for one year and 130 dollars for two years. to prevent virus' you would need nortons internet security. if you want to consider purchasing lojack which is software that will find your computer if it is lost or stolen, it will normally cost 50 dollars for one year to 79 for two years and 100 dollars for 3 years. you can also purchase a lock. mac notebooks and desktops i'll mention seperately. they are great notebooks and desktops and have no virus problems. they come in black and white. the sony vaios come in jade green, pearl white, a dark kind of black, sky blue and ruby red. sony vaio's also use trubrite technology for excellent picture quality. you might want to consider purchasing a notebook bag or carrying case as well. desktops are normally purchased in bundles with printers. try going for a good all in one printer (scanner, copier, printer). do not forget to purchase dvd disks, and the great thing is that you can record music on them as well, but not vice versa if it were just a cd drive. but you wanna go for the dvd player of course. the windows media xp is for videos and music, so if you want something for entertainment go with that. if you have more than one computer at home than you'll want to consider purchasing a router. if your purchasing a notebook do not worry about the wireless pc card, because it will most likely have one, but if its a desktop it'll cost you another 70 dollars for a good one to get an adapter. macs generally have fewer software, but mostly the important ones you'll need. one thing about processors. hp carry's alot that say amd processor. make sure you try and get one that is atleast a turion processor, and its just a diffferent brand than intel. i personally have an apple desktop and notebook, but thats me. apple is the first brand to make multimedia computers as well as the popular Apple Ipods. Macs version of Office is also alot alot better than the other computers and their video and photo editing is way better as well. the only drawback is if your into video games their not as nearly as many options. their was one person on here that has an apple ibook g4 and a windows operating pc and said if he had a choice he would stick with Apple. My impression was that he meant the brand. Do not let people intimidate you into believing Apple is inferior. If you consider that Apple has its own line of computers, you will remember that each competitor is Toshiba's line, HP's line, and so forth. Apple does not compete with an operating system like microsofts window, so its a mistake in how people judge comparing computers, because they are comparing an operating system with a whole brand of Apple computers, when they should be comparing the other company's like Toshiba, or HP. your supposed to do that, and not compare a whole operating system and every brand that carry's it against a brand of computer which is Apple that carry's already its own operating system. I personally believe it just became popular to mention the operating system, and trendy to pick on Apple. To choose Apple, your making a truely unique decision. One thing about Apple is that you can't use yahoo chatrooms because of its javascript. That was not always the case and I believe yahoo and Apple are working the issues out. You can still use the yahoo messenger. Apple's service plan is called Apple Care and is normally more reliable and quicker than the other brands. Service on a computer is at most a week, compared to the other brands, which can take at most a month for service. you should always remember what your going to use the computer for and how much you are willing to spend on it. you might need it for word processing, office work, spreadsheets, presentations, all of the above, or photo and video editing, movies, music and so forth. you may also want to consider classes for a wide variety of computer software or hardware options.
