On December 21, I will turn 50 years old. I've never had a wedding nor a baby shower nor a sweet sixteen. (I'm single and childless.) So I thought, why not have for my fiftieth birthday a Cincuentanera? A Latina girl has a Quinceanera (or Quincenera), a big birthday party when she turns 15. Well, 50 is the new 15!

I'm wondering about party themes, dress styles (girlish or matronly), quinceanera traditions adapted for the 50-year-old, and so forth. I might also dress up as a Quinceanera/Cincuentanera for Halloween. So, what are your ideas? Also, should I have the party in January, since my birthday is so close to Christmas?

I think having a "cincuentañera" is a fabulous idea, but don't get the traditional "quinciañera" dress, wear something classy and sexy, remember you're not 15 anymore! LOL

I hope you have a wonderful time.
