Always respectful to sit with her father and ask him for his daughters hand in marriage. Beware, some father's offer alcohol (he senses that you're going to ask and he might want to calm his nerves) .... anyways, if alcohol is offered, drink little if none at all.

What to say ... be prepared to ask for his daughters hand in marriage ... be prepared to give him your goals for the next year, five years, ten years, and life ... dad's love this, and it gives them reasurance that you will love and care for his precious daughter.

In person. Take your g/f too. You want to take them out for dinner. In a public place and set the mood. Casually talk about the high lites in the relationship by starting off saying something like. "you don't realize how happy your daughter has made me". From then, conversate in small talk and if you have a ring show it to them by saying this is how happy your daughter has made me and I am asking for her hand in marriage". Nothing fancy just be frank. Her parents, especially her father want security in you because that's their little girl your asking to take from them.. You have to have the mentality that your not taking their daughter away from them but, your giving them a son as well.

Heh I just asked my girlfriend's parents for their blessing yesterday.

What I did was just went over to their house when I knew they'd be home and my girlfriend wouldn't, sat down with them, and said "I've come here tonight to talk to you about [my girlfriend]. I was hoping that I would have your permission and blessing to ask her to marry me." Just like that. My girlfriend had already mentioned to her parents that we were talking about marriage, so they were ready for it. It worked, because they certainly gave me their blessing.

Definitely do it in person, that's not something that you can do over the phone.
I did it when my girlfriend wasn't there, just in case her parents wanted to discuss anything that they may not be comfortable discussing with her there.
Go to their home, too. That's where they're most comfortable, and the prospect of losing their daughter can be pretty daunting. It's best to have her parents as comfortable as possible, I think.

You just need to sit down in person with just her father. They are probably expecting it anyhow, so it shouldnt be a huge surprise to them. Just be very up front and honest, tell him your feelings for her and that you just thought that it was the right thing to do if you asked for his blessing. It will make him think you are a respectable young man. Even if you arent!!

Get the daughter to set up the meeting and ask her to iron out all the chinks before hand.
The you go and meet them, in person and use the charm that you used on their daughter.

In person - and basically, say, listen, for me to put up with your daughter's crap for the rest of my life - here's the rules: 1. you pay me monthly, 2. you pay for the wedding, and 3. you agree with me for every argument your daughter and I get into - otherwise, I'm walkin', and she's still on your payroll until the next guy...

I think in person is the best way, but just make sure that you're carrying a loaded pump-action shotgun as well. (just in case)

I would approach them in person and be sincere about your feelings.
