Please answer in the first person assuming you are among the innocent humans trapped in the war zone.

This is an Ethics Q relevant to current events in the Mideast.

Obviously neither of the first two replies calling me a retard have the ethics knowledge necessary to answer my Q. I am tired of running into intellectually inferiors in this forum and would like real answers from thoughtful participants, if any are still around.

There IS no issue! Killing even 1 human being for any reason other than pure, personal self-defense is wrong.Treating this subject as nothing more than an academic "issue" is what leads to warfare and killing in the first place! People have become desensitized to violence because it's viewed as an acceptable practice, governed only by statistics.

Peace & War

In another pamphlet, entitled "How many Men are Necessary to Change a Crime into a Virtue?" he says: "One man may not kill. If he kills a fellow-creature, he is a murderer. If two, ten, a hundred men do so, they, too, are murderers. But a government or a nation may kill as many men as it chooses, and that will not be murder, but a great and noble action. Only gather the people together on a large scale, and a battle of ten thousand men becomes an innocent action. But precisely how many people must there be to make it so?--that is the question. One man cannot plunder and pillage, but a whole nation can. But precisely how many are needed to make it permissible? Why is it that one man, ten, a hundred, may not break the law of God, but a great number may?"

"Man cannot simultaneously prepare for peace & war."

Love is the only capable force of transforming an enemy into a friend.

Peace between countries must rest on the solid foundation of love between individuals.

Clarity

To clarify...specifically for a few good men (& women)...I think war is horrible. It's not constructive & lessons long overdue are learned at what I consider too high of a price. Yet, I realize that without the existence of a protective force, I would not even be at liberty to speak these things on a blog, on the internet, in the USA, without being condemned, or destroyed, or tortured, or jailed, or any of the like. I come from a long line of Marines (and musicians, and writers, and doctors...etc), and I have a basketful of soldiers in other branches that I carry in my heartpocket. I state my opinions, because I wish people to know them...not that they are right or wrong...they are my own views alone, and not carelessly so. I put quite a bit of thought into the things I think.
I often speak of a Utopian ideal, because I strive for such. However, I am in no position to judge anyone. I am glad that you (all) would feel comfortable agreeing to disagree with me on the levels that we don't see eye 2 eye...

When i am trapped in a war zone ethics stop applying to me. The only consideration that remains is staying alive, and i will do anything to stay alive.
When i am trapped in a war a zone and a bout to get bombed i would feel that any kind of attack on my would-be attackers is justified. Probably even Nukes.
Then again, if something is ethical from the point of view of trapped desperate person it is not necessarily ethical for anybody else.

Ethics and war make strange bedfellows. As an Israeli how many rockets or suicide bombings would it take to enrage you how many bombed out buildings or cafes do you pass till you cannot stand it any longer?? at what point do you ignore world opinion and go on the offensive knowing that your enemy uses innocents as shield . l do not pretend to understand their rage or pain . nor do I pretend to know the beliefs of the Hezbollah I as a simple man can only observe and try to understand there plights do know that in every war since the begging of time there have been what is now called collateral damage(a way to de-humanize the victim) where are the ethics ?? I do not believe Ethics play a part in the decision making of the powers that be in this or any other conflict.
