I had a dream with a very similar scenario with the only difference in my surroundings - I was dying among the salt fields somewhere in Mediterranean. I was also killed with a bullet and fell down, and was lying there watching the clouds over my head.

you are at a point in your life where you need to look back and summarize it, or make sense of it. you saw the killer, that's the person you feel held you back in your life. someone you thought was a friend but stabbed you in the back. pay attention to the statues. a museum is where many questions of the past are answered. you are looking for answers. you are ready to try again your pursuits in life, but want to make sure that this person cannot stop you again. don't worry about this person, all you need to know is that you will not allow yourself to be stopped again.

Sounds like you were starring in a version of the Da Vinci code.
My brother had a dream that had a screen when it ended that said THE END just like it was a movie, strange huh?

To dream yourself dead could meant that you accept consequence in reality. Subconsciously you projected how you feel when problem occurs. You admitted it and that is why you wanted yourself dead in the dream

Dying in dreams can have 2 meanings: 1: literally dying, your body dies and your life ends; 2: dying as a dream symbol, it is not your body, but some part of your feelings or mind that dies - you are dying inside. Almost all dreams about dying are symbolic. In these dreams your body is a symbol for some parts of your mind or your feelings (your spirit). These dreams occur, when you have a problem, when you have big fears inside. People who have traffic accidents, who were (sexually) assaulted, violated, soldiers at war, etc often have these dreams. But they also occur when someone who doesn't like you says words which make you loose your courage inside. Or for instance, when someone beats you in the face in a fight. Then some part of your feelings or ideas can 'die' inside. This dying is about the same thing as when your body dies. So dreams use a dying body as a symbol, to make you understand, what happened inside you. You have been hurt so much (too much) inside, that this part of your mind or feeling dies, just as your body dies when it is hurt too much.
Words and thoughts from other people can sometimes be sharp 'as a knife'. Or like bullets. Sometimes people words at you, and you can feel really hit by them. This is the way you can understand dreams in which you are stabbed by someone and dying, or when you are shot by someone.
Your mind and your feelings have many separate 'parts'. Because you have many different feelings & thoughts. Somewhere you find these feelings about something inside you, and somewhere you have other feelings about it. On the one hand you have these thoughts about something, on the other hand you have other thoughts. You have everyday feelings and you have deeper feelings. When someone 'kills' some feelings, there are other feelings left.
The symbol for these thoughts or feelings is your body. Now you have many thoughts and feelings inside you, but only one body. So what happens in your dreams is, that when your body (= this one part of your mind or feelings) has died, there is another part inside you that has not died, that can watch your dead feelings or thoughts. This part that watches the dead part of you, is not pictured by the dream, you don't see the part of yourself that is seeing all this. The only thing you see is the symbolic picture of the dead parts. You see this picture because you need to understand that something in you has died.
So there is 2 parts of you in the dream. The one part is your hurt and dead feelings or thougths, and the other part of you you cannnot see in the dream, it is the part that observes in you. The part that observes the dead part. In the beginning you are in the part that's going to die, at that moment you do not need the observing part, so it stays away, it does not want to disturb you, it wants to let you experience the dying of this 1st part of yourself. Afterwards you do need the observing part, because the 1sst part is dead. And the only way to know you lost something of yourself is seeing it happen from another 'point of view' in yourself.
Maybe it is a bit hard to imagine that there is more parts in you. But sometimes you can feel yourself in this way, that "somewhere inside you" you have these feelings and "somewhere else" inside you you have those feelings. Then you can choose, what feelings you will follow. And also, they say that there is 'the child in you'. When they say that, there must also be 'an adult' inside you. Normally you feel yourself as one, because this is the simplest way to live, think & feel. But when you have to understand dreams like these, it is good to realise yourself that there are more parts inside you, that you do normally not feel at the same time.
That's my opinion about these dreams.

I have died in my dreams, and continued on in a state that time, and all of history were open for me to see. Always interesting when it happens. Jack

Yeah the idea that if you die in a dream you die for real, is a complete myth. I'm mean, think about it: who would be able to tell you?
