My mouth is always closed during mascara application but if it wasn't would it bother you?
When i think of some of the nasty habbits men have, i think we're lucky just to look a little gormless now and again!

the action of stretching your eye open - which you do when putting on mascara - makes you want to open your mouth slightly as it activates a muscle around your mouth.

I wondered that too. I never leave my mouth gaping when applying my mascara (when I where it) but all the other females I've seen do. I don't get it either, it's not necessary.

The opened mouth balances the hand, it makes it more steady.
Just like when you scratch a dog & it's leg twitches. BTW
I think that's called "hand,eye &Mouth cordinanation. LOL

If I'm at work I usually have someone put mine on for me..but I can put it on myself with my mouth closed

I can otherwise if I have my mouth open I fog up the mirror and miss my eyelashes
