No real offense meant LIZ, but it's chores that need to be done.
I'm guilty at times too, but here are some of my motivations.
When food or candy wrappers can't make it to the trash can, or food left on plates, but I find them on the couch or floor,,, I know it's time. When the dishes in the sink, outnumber those in the cupboard,,, I know it's time. When the laundry on the floor next to the washer, or overflowing from the hamper causes me to go out and BUY another garment,,, I know its time. When I can't find my way in the dark, other than by "LandMines",,,I know its time. When I am awakened either by the sounds of bugs going through my trash can,, or worse, opening my refrigerator,,, I know it's time. When my white porcelain "BOWL" is looking like where the "SWAMP THING" came from,,, I know it's time. Last but not least,,,as I'm laying lazy on the couch, and the TV screen looks like the scene is REALLY FOGGY,,, I know it's time.
I'm not at all obsesssive about cleaning, but I know the difficulties in making it a discipline.
All that said, I have no clue as to the ages of your offspring, or if a mate is available, but even for yourself, wouldn't you want something else as an environment?
Perhaps it's overwhelming? Perhaps breaking life down into smaller, more manageable parts might help? Schedule finding the floor in one room at a time?
I have no kids living with me now, but used to, and both my wife and I had to expend the effort. When the kids were young they were issued chores,,,which wasn't strictly meant to help US, as much as give them an idea of what reality is all about.
If you have the means, hire a one day a week housekeeper?

I'm an erratic cleaner. I do so much then take a break and then continue on. I dont usually get every chore done in one day, there's too much to do. Don't feel guilty :) There are days when I'm really ambitious and take advantage of that.
Unfortunately, I'm a night owl and I like to clean around 10:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. but that's rather disruptive and it's harder to see without daylight!
I agree that the coffee/caffeine buzz really helps if you like to clean in the mornings!

Then just watch tv and relax. That's what I do when I have a day without my kids. When they come home and if they are old enough get them to help you clean.

Open all the windows and doors and turn on all the lights and make the house as open and light as possible. Get your I-pod servin' up some moving tunes, tie your hair back and get to it!! Promise yourself a long bubblebath and a beer when your finished.
OR....
Relax and watch TV and make those kids start doing some chores!!!!! If they are over 5 they should be able to help out somewhat.

Human motivation is a response that our body has to some
form of either internal or external stimulation.
In simple terms, it means that our body is responding to
stimulation. An example is that we are motivated to eat
something because we are hungry. We are directing a
behavior to a particular goal. Humans need to be motivated
to do just about anything in life. That is why it is so
Important to set goals.
Sure, we may not need to set a goal to eat, sleep or drink.
Those are internal stimulations. But sometimes in life we
find that we need to motivate ourselves to do other
important functions in life.
Some of these include: losing weight, exercising, quitting
smoking, cleaning the house, doing homework or finding a
job. Those are just to mention a few.
The bottom line is, we need to set goals to do some of
these things. Without goals, we really can't begin to get
motivated. As humans, we need to have the reason to do
something. That is how our brain works.
There are three basic types of personalities
that determine human motivation.
1. The need for achievement is the drive to excel at things
and strive to succeed. This type is in it for the
competition only.
2. The need for power is the desire to make people behave a
certain way with the power of human motivation. This type
of person is in it for the power and could care less about
the competition.
3. The need for affiliation is the strong needs for close
interpersonal relationships with others. This type of
person is in it for friends. They will cooperate just to
have the social aspect.
These are all types of personalities that are part of human
motivation. It is what drives us to think the way we think
and desire the things that we desire.
Depending on which human motivation type you are will
determine what motivates you. There can also be a
combination of two or three to make up someone's
personality.
Everyone is different in that different things motivate
each and every one of us. In order to get motivated, one
needs to first set goals out in front of them to meet. They
need to be goals that are within reach.
Then after the goals have been set down, it is time to get
a plan on what it will take to meet your goals. Write it
down and prioritize the things that need to be done in
order to achieve this motivation.
The final stage to human motivation is to make a commitment
to keep focused on the goals. Remember, motivation is what
drives us all. We need to have it to achieve anything.
Although some lucky people seem to be born highly
motivated, if you are of at least average intelligence you
can learn how to be motivated. No matter how unmotivated
you have been up to now you can still become a winner.
A winner is simply someone who
utilizes their resources and
brain power to their best
advantage while maintaining
a positive motivation and
attitude. If you have ever
wished to be a winner, look
for the motivation and attitude
to help you succeed...

Wait about 15 minutes and you'll have the energy to clean everything. start with vaccuming, then dust & windows, kitchen then the bedroom, let the kids do their rooms don't you do it. Then sit back down cause your gonna crash from the caff & sugar and watch somemore TV....

Just think about how uncomfortable you will be when the house is in a mess. you will feel a million times better if you start to get up and clean , just little by little, like cleaning the sink...then start to clean other things as well..

Shut the TV off, put your shoes on so you are not comfy, turn music on loud and get at it. IMAGINE that you're significant others ex is going to come make a surprise visit. How embarrased would you be for them to see your house in the shape it is in right now. GET UP...you can do it.

Its your time, watch the TV, the dust and dirt and laundry will keep
You need the time for yourself more than with the housework.
Relaxation you need to keep your family going, cause you can't be good to anyone else if you are not good to yourself.
