This is a tricky one, there is not enough time here to tell you everything. The Arabic word Islam could be translated as Peace.

The followers of Islam are called Muslims. They follow the Islamic way of life.

Islam is built on five pillars:
1) Decleration of Belief of Faith; To declare acceptance that there is only one God (Allah), and the Prophet is his last and Greatest Prophet
2) Salat (Or salah); Pray 5 times a day facing Makkah
3) Sawm; The fasting during the month of Ramadan
4) Zakat; The donation of a part of your income
5) Hajj; The pilgrimage to Makkah

Put simply, their belief is there is one God, Allah, and Mohammed is his Prophet, and that you must atain peace by following the word of Allah as told to Mohammad and recorded in both the Qua'ran and sunnah.

I suggest reading some texts first from a decent book in your bookshop. Don't start with the Qua'ran, start with something simple as an educational overview of the religion, and work your way up. When you feel you know the basic beliefs, you cna understand what the Qur'ran is teaching.

I apologise for my horrendous spelling here, but some of these words are not the easiest to spell, and its been some time since I was in 6th year.

That depends on which Islamic sect you are listening to.

It is all in the interupertation, I have been studying Islam in earnest for a year and could study it for another 20 and still not have an answer.

They believe that Muhammed was the last prophet and that he spoke to God thorugh an Angel who sent the Quran (Muslim Holy Book) Much is similar to the Old Testament.

It is a Male dominated religon, with Men allowed 4 wives and they can also Sleep with the slaves that they own, but women are stoned to death for Adultery.

Muhammed seemed to blame women for Men's sins in morality with his rules.

They have strict laws about dress, foods, and are against all Alcohol.

Along these lines, Muslims can be led into different ways of life from very peacefull and loving, to Crazed Terrorists depending on the Religous Scholar that is advising them.

You will get a variety of responses... some true, some false (by the looks of it, quite a lot of them are false here!). If you really are determined to learn, then I suggest you get a good genuine and reliable book! The best one would be the Qur'an (no false claims, no conspiracies etc!!) Why not get one with English translation if you cant read Arabic? If you do decide to go ahead, make sure you get it from a reliable source (not some random website off the internet!!). In terms of website, this is the best i think:

http://www.islam-qa.com/index.php?ln=eng

I wouldnt suggest u use answering-islam.org as the other user suggested. It is known to contain misleading information. You know what they say, better to be safe than sorry!!

P.S. I would love to tell you about Islam and Muslims but there is not enough space in here!! But MORE IMPORTANTLY, i dont wanna give you wrong information by mistake (I would rather not risk it)

Best wishes xx

Islam means "submission" and this is shown throughout the religion. Islam demands submission from its followers. but does not promise eternal life. No Muslim who dies (even suicide bombers) know whether they will go to Paradise. The Islamic paradise is a very carnal one compared to the Christian one. But I guess you should read a book on comparative religions if you want to understand the differences between Islam and other religions.

Simon K summed up the basics. It's always seemed strange to me that Jews, Christians, and Muslims all believe in the same God and differ only on which prophet had the last word, yet they call each other "pagans", "infidels", etc., and want to kill each other. If they spent as much time reading their scriptures as they spend fighting and screaming ethnic slurs at each other, they might recognize that their common ground is more significant than their differences. Sadly, many people would rather remain ignorant and continue to try to wipe out other religions than take the time to understand them.

I'm not sure of the answer but I don't think it is being interpreted by some of the Muslim Clerics correctly. I'm sure the Koran didn't want terrorist to blow up innocent people. How come these Clerics' become old men only preach to their young men to become suicide bombers?

There is only one God. Mohammed was his last prophet and the main one as he recorded the Koran. God didn't have a son or father etc. There were other prophets - Jesus was one, but their message was forgotten (I think).

Always strikes me as a very logical religion as religions go. More so than this father, son and holy spirit malarkey. Sorry if I cause any offense.
