It all boils down to bat speed. A pro told me one time that you have to swing as hard as you can to generate the most bat speed.

So, you a bat that is lighter (26oz) so the bat speed is greater. The problem with that is that you will dent the bat after only one season.

He was right though. You don't realize it, but most of the time you don't swing the bat as hard as you can. If you concentrate on doing that, you'll have much more success.

All this is assuming you're doing everything else properly. Hip turn, weight shift, wrist action.

Good luck with the long ball!!!

Practice does make perfect, but the key for getting distance in softball is to realize that you don't have to swing as hard as you possibly can in order to make the ball go far. I know women the all of 5'3" and 100 lbs. soaking wet that can get the ball into the outfield with regularity, and they're not trying to murder the ball. The trick is to learn the proper swing technique where you're hitting the ball at the correct angle. No sense in hitting the ball as hard as you can if it's going to bounce off the turf 10 feet in front of you. So when you practice, try easy swings and try to get "under" the ball so it'll travel through the air. Once you get that down you can put a little more "OOMPH!!!" behind it. Good luck!

Practice batting off of a tee, and with a pitching machine, and stretch 2x a day. Watch good hitters, and "Wait for a good pitch to hit." - Ted Williams.

make sure you hit the ball with a level swing, not an upward swing. level swing will get you the distance you need whereas an upward (golf swing) will get you deep flyouts and infield pop ups.

Use a more uppercut swing. Bad advice for fast pitch, but good advice for slow pitch.
