Because they are having a bad year, and Maddux is close to the end of his career. It's money thing...they dumped a bunch of salary by trading him

Because they now have a good, young and inexpensive short stop signed through 2007. Ronny Cedeno can move to 2nd so his aggressive throwing can be handled reducing his error total. They won't need to look for a 2nd basemen in the offseason because of Ronny (because without Walker that would be a priority). And they got rid of Maddux's $9 million contract coupled with losing Wood's contract will free up a ton of money to be spent on another ace pitcher - hopefully Barry Zito or Jason Schmidt - and another hitter like Carlos Lee because he hits great in Wrigley.
And Maddux gets a chance at a contender, he's always been a great postseason pitcher. Of course what will be missed the most is Maddux serving as a secondary pitching coach to all the rookies making their debuts this year.

Because they are just plain stupid!! Maddux has plenty left in that amazing arm and will help the Dodgers get into the playoffs, unlike the Cubs. The Cubs' fans have suffered for years with incompetence. Every year is THE year for the Cubs, and every year they get worse. I guess the answer is to clean house and start to build for the future. However, trading Maddux to the Dodgers is NOT the way to begin!!
Chow!!

Being a diehard Cubs fan right here, I believe we did the right thing to trade Maddux. Im sure he won't stay with the Dodgers after this year is over but hey now he actually has a chance to win his 2nd WS ring. Everyone seems to be complaining about Izturis and claiming he is "injured". Sure he had Tommy John surgery but he is not a pitcher so its not bad.
Overall Maddux really didnt do anything well this season, besides starting off at 5-0.

Greg Maddux is an elite, future hall of fame pitcher. He deserves a better team. The Cubs did the right thing by saving him from a horrendous ending to an excellent career. They felt they owed it to him to give him a chance at a pennat, a division title at least. The Dodgers are currently contenders, The Cubs are looking to finish ahead of the Pirates.

Because Jim Hendry had to make a good decision at least once, Maddux used up all his good years in Atlanta, he only came back to Chicago to retire and I for one am glad to see him go. However Hendry showed his true self by getting rid of Walker Oh well it all balances out for the inept GM of Chicago Cubs, I was waiting to hear he traded Ramirez or Zambrano, which would not have surprised me as much of a butthead he is!!

b/c there was no reason to keep him. This season is over, so why not unload salary cap liabilities. The Dodgers can use him in their rotation, so a good move by them. A win/win for both sides....buy a Maddux jersey for the Cubs if you're that sad about him leaving, but really you shouldn't be.

Maddux is no longer a great pitcher. He is merely okay. The Cubs aren't going anywhere, and Maddux is expensive. Why would you not trade him?

It became a solid decision to commerce Maddux, through fact Dusty Baker found out that he's handed his best, and that they have an mind-blowing form of youthful pitchers coming in that want taking part in time. additionally, i think of they might've stored Todd Walker, yet i assume with plenty infield intensity (seek for the Cubs to have between the suitable infields next twelve months in the event that they stay healthful) it became a solid concept to get a minimum of considered one of them out for something else they mandatory. One commerce I do wanna see them make is Kerry timber for absolutely everyone. they might desire to comprehend that he's on no account gonna be the Kerry timber of previous and he's had too many injuries. Mark past they are able to look ahead to, he's nicely worth it and he's somewhat healthful while in comparison with timber, yet timber desires out. pass Cubs!!!

because the cubs always suck so bad that they wanted to allow the one good player they have to get away from the curse, bad owners, incompetant front office, and terribles coaches that mismanage the players and get them hurt all the time.
