I don't need much to be happy with. Life is way too short to be spent in worries and all. Sure life gets me down every single day and I believe it's okay to be sad, frustrated even cry ( I am of the female species and I have the universal right to cry! :) ) though I dont believe there is any shame in tears for ANYONE, it's natural. But the thing is to not be stuck there for long, to come out of there and find pleasure in simple things as an ice cream cone. So what truly makes me happy is going to bed every night and to stretch out and feel all the muscles ache and in knowing that I worked and then thinking and unwinding and then thanking GOD that all my loved ones are safe and that I am still alive in my home and in my bed and then praying for another good day.
A lot of things make me tick in general, in life but if I come down to the very basics, it's when I am trying to do my job or anything and people try to make hurdles or make something big out of nothing or are not helpful enough.
The reason I live for .. well the answer will differ for everyone of course but you see everyone has this set of rules that they live by whether they are dictated by religion or by society or even if they created them. So, I am Muslim. My life is dictated by the rules of my religion. I might not be the best of the followers of my religion but it still defines my life. So, I live because I am here and that is what I have to do. I have to live and follow certain rules and hope that I am doing a good enough a job to find the right place in life after death. That is not very different from all those who believe in a life after death and hell and heaven.
What keeps me going - Believe me there are days when I wish putting a bullet in my head would be the best thing to do but suicide and giving up hope are not solutions to anything and if they were no one would be here. I think of all the people who love me who I love and then I think of all the reasons that I need to keep on going and I find plenty of them to keep me going. I want to finish school, get promoted, get married and have kids and if I give up then I wouldn't get that so I keep on going.
I tried to answer. I hope you find what you were looking for.
Peace! :)

There are many things in life that bring me great joy (music, sex, hiking, wine, campfires, etc), but what really allows me to be happy all the time is being properly centered and living a principle driven life. If you make all of your decisions based on important principles in your life then you will always be well grounded and true to yourself and that’s where true happiness comes from.
So how do you develop your principals? One of the best exercises I’ve ever done is one outlined in Stephen Covey’s book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Here it is: what would you want people to say about you at your funeral? Try writing several eulogies from different people. What would you want your parents to say about you? Your best friend? Your co-worker? Your teacher? Your brother/sister? Etc. Figure out how you want others to view you and then become that person. Figure out your principles; be true to them and you will find happiness in life.

What makes me happy is the feeling that everyday there is someone that would like to see me. Whar keeps me going is the anticipation of a better future and a sense that life will give me tons of adventure today.

My dad makes me live. He has been through so much and hasn't given up. If he has been tough enough not to give up then I won't give up either. There have been times when I have wondered why I am here then I think of how upset he would be if I were not here and that makes me want to be here.

Knowing that you are unconditionally loved. Whether that be by a spouse, child, parent, friend, etc. Knowing that someone loves you no matter what horrible thing you might do or stupid or hurtful thing you may say. For some people, including myself, I know that I am unconditionally loved by God, and that makes me happy (deep down happy, not always in-the-moment happy).
