My son got a tattoo 2 days ago. Could he jump in the swimming pool fast or will it lighten the color? Just wants to be able to cool off quick....it is 97 out today here.

I just recently got a tattoo and the artist told that the safest thing to do is to avoid chlorinated water for six weeks because tattoos need to dry from the inside out and the chlorine will dry the outside too quickly which could result in an infection.....

He needs to keep the tattoo 1) out of the water 2) out of the sun if he wants to have a good looking tattoo and not get it infected.

Soaking it in a pool will loosen up the scabs causing them to fall off too early which will cause him to lose color.

No matter how much chlorine is in the pool, there is still bacteria in it. If someone farts in the pool, there are fecal contaminants in it. A tattoo is an open wound and the bacteria would love getting into his body through it either causing the tattoo to get infected or causing him to get sick.

Plus, being in a pool with an open wound is gross.

nooo!! wait at least 2 weeks after you get a tattoo to go swimming. It could definitely take the color out of it, and it is a wound, there is so much bacteria in pools, it could get infected. also keep it out of the sun until it heals, then make sure he puts sun screen on it, to prevent it from fading fast.

When I got my tattoo, the artist told me to wait for a week before getting chlorine on it. The color has not set completely yet so it could remove color.

I would check with the artist who did the tattoo. Personally, if my tattoo were only 2 days old, I wouldn't take the chance. You are not even supposed to get water on it for a few days.
