After my first ultrasound, my due date was changed. It was originally Aug. 2nd, but then they changed it to Aug. 12th because of the size of the baby. Has that happened to anybody else? It just seems a little wierd because between the two dates its a week. I figured a couple of days but not a whole week. And since my last visit, the doctor said i was only a fingertip dialated, but i've been having these cramps, they feel like really bad menstural cramps, but they end up going away. Its just kind of fusterating, because i don't really know what date to rely on.

When was your first ultrasound? In the first trimester, dating a pregnancy with u/s is pretty accurate. If you are in your second trimester (say 20 weeks into your pregnancy), we will use two head measurements, abdominal and femur measurements to date your pregnancy. At 20 weeks, the date we get from those measurements is always plus or minus about 10 days. That means you can be ahead or behind by 10 days of the date given. In your third trimester, the plus or minus is even greater (16-18 days is not uncommon). This is because not all babies are 8 pounds. You can have a full term baby delivered at 6 or 10 pounds, so the growth rate varies. And remember, your due date is just an approximation. A baby is not labeled premature unless it is born more than 2 weeks early, and a baby is not overdue until 2 weeks after your due date. I would take take this out of your different dates....Your LMP (last menstrual period) dating and the ultrasound dating is very close, and therefore, that is a good sign.

Due dates are guestimates. Maybe in the beginning you were a little off as to the ending of your last menstrual cycle, that is a starting time for them and then time of conception is kind of a guess after that.
If this is your first ultrasound, then it isn't unusual to have a date change based on the size and development of the baby. If you had an ultrasound earlier they could more accurately measure the development of the child and the date would have been adjusted at that time.
No worries. Pick a point in between that. They usually won't let you go more than a week past your official due date anyways before inducing labor.

the cramps you are having is dialating you more. the date often changes because they will go off of the size of the baby. if they changed it to the 12th then your due date is the 12th but keep in mind that you will probably go into labor before then anyways. due dates are really just an estimate. since tomorrow is the 2nd and you're obviously not going into labor yet, maybe they were wrong about the date the first time.

My doctor told me my due date was July 6, but when I went in a week before the due date he told me I wasn't dialated at all and we would probably have to wait three weeks before the baby was ready to be born. I opted for a c-section because waiting that long would have meant him gaining 3 more pounds and he already weighed 10.3. If you're dialated and having cramps, then you may be about ready soon.

when i was pregnant with my son the ultrasound showed that he was 2 weeks bigger than his due date showed but since it wasnt more than 2 weeks they didnt change his due date....he was born exactly 2 weeks early......but they did change yours....and if your already 2 cm dialated then i would say its not going to be too much longer before you have your baby....even if he hadnt changed your due date it still wouldnt be reliable...a due date just says your baby will be born around this time....usually between 2 weeks early and 2 weeks later

it happened to me too - I say just be ready tomorrow on because it could truly be ANY DAY - As of my last menstrul period I should've been due on the July 22nd but then they did the sonogram and it showed up that I was due Sept. 2nd and then another sonogram said August 25th and I am measuring a week earlier than that so I just say I am having this baby SOMETIME this month. hehe!
