The best job at 16 is going to be a waitress - I know it kinda sucks and not exactly what you are looking for, but lots of high paying jobs demand a college degree, or you won't be able to get your foot in the door.
The positive thing about being a waitress is that you get to meet new people and even more importantly, you get paid daily with cash.
If you want to top out and make as much as you can doing that, then I would recommend a higher-end restaurant, not something like Chilli's, but maybe a steak house where the clientele have much more money.

That all depends on where you are and what the job market is like in your area. Take for instance, working near a large city pays better then in a rural area. Jobs for someone your age usually pay minimum wage unless you get a job where you work for tips. If you can get a job as an office clerk/admin assistant at a dental or medical office, you would make a little more then if you worked at a fast food restaurant.
For more info look at the sites below. The first will give you the salaries of all jobs in the US and the second site will give you career information. Good luck in your search for a good paying job.

do you need the job now? or can you train? You could do nail tech training at nights after school. Once you get licensed, you could continue to do nails while you're away at college. That pays pretty well while you are getting you're degree. Or, talk to your parents and guidance counselor at school to see interests you have; perhaps you could do a school/work program in your junior/senior year. You may want to become a cosmetologist. It's way cheaper to do it through your high school, than if you decide to do it after you graduate high school. - and that's a skill you will always have even if you pursue college. The main thing is find something to do that you love - it will never seem like work! Good luck!

that depends, do you know how to do anything ? (like a special skill that would make you marketable to earn more money than other 16 year olds!) most likely your first job will pay minimum wage it sucks but its a start, if you do a good job you always have the potential of making more

If you're pretty and willing to be self degradating and exploiting than I'd go with prostitute. Guys are always ready, willing, and able to put up for a good piece of ****. Otherwise at 16 you just have to work as a waitress in a decent place that the people tip well in. PEACE!

Try office work instead of fast food places or waitress. Many offices are willing to take on bright young people with who have a desire to learn. At your age I actually had several different part time jobs to help earn money for clothes, etc.

You should look into restaurant or grocery store employment.
Good first job according to my niece and sisters.
My nephew focused on studying and getting good grades which helped him to get a scholorship in a school on the east coast. He would 've never earned that kind of money in a local job.
