I recently read Lust to live:The life of Vincent Van Gogh by Irvine Stone, I read the Before he Was Siddartha,: The life of Buddha. I just finish reading The Life of Pi by Martel. I like to read powerful, realistic, philisophical genre. Any biographies I should read that I written in the style of a novel.

"Truman" by David McCullough is good. If you enjoy theatre, I recommend "Without You," by Anthony Rapp, which tells about his time in RENT and losing his mother to cancer. "Wasted" by Marya Hornbacher is an excellent autobiography about the author's struggle with eating disorders. "Revenge: A Story of Hope" by Laura Blumenfield (I think) is an excellent book that follows the author's quest for revenge, and what she finds in the end.

You might want to try George Orwell's "Homage to Catalonia." This is not a biography so much as it is memoirs. It's Orwell's account of his service in the Spanish Civil War. It's interesting from a historical and political viewpoint, and Orwell's style is very readable.

Please tell me that you have read these two books.. if not then go to your library, check them both out, and do not do anything until you finish them. Actually once you start them, it is hard to do or think about anything else.
Night by Elie Wiesel
The Diary of Anne Frank by her upstairs neighbor and Anne herself.
These two books are the most powerful, saddening and deafening reminder about the Holocaust and it's victims I have ever read. They will make you rethink your life. peace.

David McCullough is the BEST biography writer I've read. I recommend both "John Adams" and "Mornings on Horseback" (about Theodore Roosevelt's early years.) I hated for them to end.

There was one I read recently about Sir Richard Burton--the 19th century explorer and scholar, not the actor. Fascinating--a life lived in perpetual overdrive.
