Like any other novel that got turned into a movie, see it portrayed on screen. I think the real question should have been...what was the meaning behind the making of Godfather III. The other two, very good story of the Corleone family, their rise to power and the struggles within. Some of the best scenes ever on film.

Many films have themes that are fictionalized treatments of times in history and the people who lived during those times. Sometimes the films are about actual people (and they're true to a greater or lesser extent), and sometimes they're about an entire group of people, and a character is drawn from examples of the lives of several actual people.

There was no actual "Corleone" crime family, but the events depicted in the novel and in the three films are based on actual Sicilian (and Jewish) organized crime organizations. Many of the characters are based on actual people, such as Meyer Lansky, Bugsy Siegel and Frank Sinatra.

Aside from the historical significance of the novel and the films, there is a very human story underlying it all--a story that transcends the entire "Mafia family" theme. The novel and films are about making a place for your family and protecting your family and how--ironically--sometimes doing things that are supposed to protect your family can serve to destroy it.

Engrossing motion picture that features some of the finest editing, cinematography and performances ever. There is a wonderful theme of family that runs through this film and its later sequels. No one is truly judged. Love is unconditional. God is the one who truly judges. Easily, the word masterpiece describes this film, but that's been said by so many...Who am I to argue? Masterpiece is right on the money.
