Wild animals should be left in the wild. Even if you have raised an animal from when it was very young, it will still retain its wild instincts and will never become domesticated. In addition, it is often illegal to keep them in captivity without a license. If a squirrel (or any other wild animal) is in need of rescue, it should be taken to a licensed wildlife rehabilitate.

Well, it's illegal. But some people adopt domesticly bred squirrels. Usually you are supposed to contact your local animal control center or whatever for them to take care of it.

It would really depend though, sometimes they will euthanize an animal that it brought to them if they think that it would take too much money and effort to save it. So with that in mind, I might try to help an injured squirrel or a baby that fell out of its nest, to avoid euthanasia. But without many resources to care for a squirrel, it would be hard to do a good job.

This site gives some information but again recommends not keeping it.

No way would I keep a wild squirrel. I'd probably take it to the closest vet and let them deal with it.

We had 4 of them for a while...of course you cant keep them forever they are wild animals. Ours fell out of thier nest and we saved them, raised them and let them go with another squirrel when they were older.

no, they are meant to be in the wild...i would not keep them inside, they have so many instincts to be outside it would seem as if they tried to get out all of the time..we raised baby raccoons when we were children and wouldn't recommend them either.
