should i try out for my jv football team, im going into 9th grade. i think im a good pick for reciever, im tall for my age at 5ft10, i have a good weight at 140, i run a mile in liek 6 or 6.5 minutes. i can catch, and can stan a tackle. but im not really popular, and if i dont make it ill get laughed at. well, some of my friends will probably be on it, but alot of the kids are assholes who have parents with money and time to take them. i hope i make it. glenelg is a good team, and i think i could do it cuz of my height, and im alot faster and stronger than the people my age

Learn to play the game, and nobody is going to laugh at you. You won't know where your talents are until you actually play. Remember that high school football is not quite like the pros (or even college, for that matter); you may well end up on a team that runs the ball 80 percent of the time from a full house backfield and doesn't use its receivers (or, vice versa, runs a spread offense and throws 75 percent of the time). In some areas, teams still run 4-4 and 6-2 defenses (as opposed to the 4-3 and 3-4 in the pros). Thus, don't try to focus on trying out for one position-- just learn the fundamentals of tackling and blocking, learn to run and catch in full pads, and so forth. You have pretty good size, and you may find that you have greater talents in a position for which you are not yet familiar.

And remember to be tough. You can shut a lot of people up just by showing that you are tougher than they are. Only a fairly small percentage of guys have the guts to play football (forget those, "Oh, I could play if I wanted to" types). No matter how good you end up being, you'll never regret the experience.

Go for it!!it sounds to me like you are confident that you will make the team. It will probably help your popularity. You should go for it if its something you really want. Dont let a bunch of losers hold you back. GOOD LUCK!

Dude, screw popularity, if you want to play football play. Tell the other kids to kill themselves if they give you crap. You can probably make friends with them also. Hit the weights, start doing sprints and you'll be fine. If it ends up not being worth it to play then just quit.
