waitress at a restaurant or someplace where you can get a discount on something you like. Always try to remove a bill by working for that company. Avoid fast food like the flippin' plague.

When I was your age, I babysat, taught violin lessons, and cleaned houses. I didn't make much then babysitting, but you can today. My sons get as much as $8 an hour when they babysit. If you have been playing a musical instrument for a long time, you can make great money teaching beginnings. You could probably charge $15 to $25 per hour (cut in half for half hr. lessons,) depending upon which state you live in. Some places, you make $10 an hour or more cleaning houses.
Getting signed up with a temp agency is a good idea too. They will send you out on weekend work where you do things like give away stuff at race track promotions or usher at games or concerts. These jobs tend to pay a little more than minium wage. If you live in a state that has In & Out Burgers, this is supposed to be a great place to work with good pay and free food but of course there is a lot of competition for those jobs. Hot dog on a stick is also pretty good. Other ideas: if you're a good swimmer, you can be hired at a local pool as a lifeguard. Often you can work as a recreation leader too - check with your city's recreation department for job openings.
It would be excellent to get into an ROP program at your high school. You will get hands on training for a higher paying job and then get to work and get paid. The best one in my opinion, is banking. Washington Mutual hires a bunch of teenagers to work at their banks after the teens go thru the training.
It also doesn't hurt to start with a minimum wage job and work your way up. If you are good at what you do and are a reliable employee, you will get raises. Grocery stores area a great place to start. Many people have started out as courtesy clerks and ended up in management. Other jobs that teens can be hired for: sign holders, leaflet distributers and fast food/ retail positions.
A great place to find job ads is www.craigslist.com; most of my jobs in recent years have come from there! Good luck with your job search and I hope you find something that you will enjoy and good for you wanting ot get a job!

A lot of teens around here work at fast food restaurants, but I think a place like Smith's or Super1 bagging groceries would be the best. You're not around that smelly food all day.

The best place to work is your home, and work for parents.

If you don't have any experiences, work at any restaurant.
